Payton

I let go of Markus and shook my head. Now, I felt like an ass. I walked over to the couch and sat down. Not only did I go after my cousin, who wasn't at fault, but Josie saw my temper. I ran my hand through my hair in frustration.

"Would this be a bad time to tell you that Parker was the one that created this mess?" Matthew asked as we all looked at him. Parker gave him a look. "Hey, if we're going down, so are you," Matthew told Parker.

"Screw that. Let's talk about the fact that Payton likes Josie," Patton mentioned as everyone looked at me, and I sighed.

"Okay, fine, I like her, but if I have any chance, I blew it tonight," I replied as I got up and went upstairs. It didn't matter. I always screw things up with someone I like. I let my jealousy get the best of me, and my temper flared.

Paxton

I realize with my family that they're many dumbasses who are always plotting and planning something. I get dragged into it because someone usually gets a bright idea, Patton.

I didn't come here to watch Payton crash and burn, although that's a bonus. I came to see Shaun. I lied to our folks and told them I missed my big brothers and wanted to check out the college.

I walked over to him as he looked at me.

"Hey," I said when someone knocked on the door. Parker answered it to find a guy standing there.

"Who are you?" Park asked the guy.

"I'm Travis. I came to pick up Shaun for our date," he told Park as I looked at Shaun.

"Pax," Shaun said.

"I'm going to see Pay. Have fun on your date," I told him as I walked away. I refused to stand there and watch the guy I like to go out with someone else even though I came all this way to see him.

Patton

Did you ever feel the need to break someone's legs because they broke your brother's heart? Yeah, I felt like doing that to Shaun as we watched him leave with some tool.

"I think I'm going home," Britt said as I watched her walk to the door. When she left, I followed her.

I caught up with her.

"Britt, wait up!" I yelled as she stopped and looked at me. When I reached her, I stopped. "That wasn't what I expected when we came up here."

"What did you expect?" She asked me.

"To say hi to my twit brothers, then see you," I told her as she smiled at me.

"Your family is a little crazy," she remarked, motioning her finger and thumb.

"They're Grays. The crazy gene passed down through the years," I shrugged as she giggled. "I'll walk you to your dorm," I offered as she smiled.

We walked to Britt's dorm and talked. I hesitated to kiss her, so I went the safe route and kissed her cheek. I didn't want to ruin the friendship we developed if she didn't feel the same way about me that I felt about her.

We said goodnight and parted ways. Maybe one day I will get up the courage to ask her on a date, and maybe one day she will say yes. Today was not that day.

Josie

I laid on my bed, reading a book when Britt came into the room. She looked happy, which probably has something to do with Patton coming here.

"I'm not even going to ask," I told her.

"Patton kissed me," Britt blurted.

I sat up and looked at her, surprised.

"He only kissed my cheek, but still, he kissed me," she squealed, excitedly.

"That is great. I know you've been hesitant about Patton," I reminded her.

She walked over and sat down on her bed.

"I am, but I realize I can't listen to rumors. Enough about me and my baby step love life. What happened with Payton?" She questioned me.

I sighed as I sat up.

"Payton scared me tonight," I told her as her brows furrowed. "The way he went after Markus and Markus didn't even do anything, terrified me. I'm not used to people acting like that," I explained.

"Josie, everyone knows the Grays have a temper, but they have never physically hurt a girl," she reminded me.

"There's a first time for everything. Even the nicest people can lose their temper, and things can happen. It makes me wonder if I went out with him if he wouldn't lose his temper with me one day. It's one thing to have a crush; it's another to have someone crush you, literally," I told her as she looked at me with concern.

That was the thing you never know about people. Everyone I encountered was always mean to me, so I avoided them. Britt is my best friend, and Selena became my friend until I found out she's my sister. That made it better.

Parker was decent to me, but most people treated me like a nuisance or a joke. It hits your self-esteem a lot.

"Josie, Payton probably overreacted. If you aren't sure about him, then be casual with him," she suggested as I looked at her. I wasn't so sure about any of this.

Paxton

I sat on the side of Parker's bed alone. Payton's already pissed off. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. I didn't even want to be here now. I wanted to go home.

"Want to talk about it?" I heard someone ask as I stared at the window.

"What to discuss? We agreed not to be serious or exclusive. I'm still in high school and two hours away from here. I would rather go home," I said as I sat there.

"Pax," Payton said as I turned and looked at him. He furrowed his brows as I looked away.

"Pay, I didn't want to open up to someone. When I did, I get to see the person go out with someone else. I was better off not saying anything. I should've kept my trap shut," I told Pay as I wiped my face. I hated to cry, and I hated crying in front of my brothers.

"Look, no matter what I or anyone else says, it won't change your mind, but we all deal with relationship issues even when we mess it up ourselves," he said as I sat there. "Considering the girl I like feels terrified of me, I'm probably going to be alone."

I turned and looked at him as he sighed. Payton never had an issue with going out with girls. He never was with them long term, but never had a problem. It was the first time I saw him defeated.

"Then persuade her that you're human," I suggested as he looked at me. "Pay, you make mistakes like everyone else, but you would never hurt a girl. You never did and won't start now."

"That's easier said than done. It took me weeks for Josie to talk to me as a friend. Every time another girl talks to me, she finds some excuse to do something else. It's like she's avoiding me on purpose," he said as I gave him a knowing look. He looked at me, and it took two minutes before he realized why I was looking at him the way I was. My brother is slow on the uptake. "Well, shit."

"Dude, you are as slow as a snail with these things. You have no issue getting a girl, but you're as dumb as a stump with keeping them. No wonder the girls you like to flock to Markus. Who better than a hot gay guy, who his cousin is jealous of him?" I asked him.

"How did you know Markus is gay? None of us knew until tonight," Payton mentioned.

"Did you ever see him with a girl besides the ones you dated?" I asked him.

"No," he answered.

"Did you ever see me with a girl?" I asked as he furrowed his brows. "The fact is, Payton, you assumed and never asked. Markus looked up to you, and you let your jealousy get the best of you. Your jealousy and temper are your weaknesses," I explained as he looked at me.

"Well, now it's going to cost me a chance with someone," he sighed.

I shook my head. I think the only one who wasn't having issues with someone is Parker. The weekend isn't over yet.
