Jesse
"Are you in here, Jesse?" I heard Skylar yell.
"Yeah," I said as I stood there, looking through some information. Skylar bounded into my room as she usually does.
"So I was thinking," Skylar said.
"That's your first mistake," I retorted with a smirked as she rolled her eyes.
"When we get to school, there are cute boys," Skylar said, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Pray, tell me how you're going to get past Dad's rule on dating?" I asked her. I walked over and sat down on my bed, crossing my legs.
"I'm eighteen and going to college with you. That should benefit me," Skylar said, trying to find a loophole in Dad's rule of no dating.
"You do know he will find out," I reminded her.
"Don't kill my dreams, man," she told me as I shook my head. I looked at my little sister like she's an idiot. Our Dad would never allow her to date. I didn't care if I dated because no guy is worth my effort.
"Girls," we heard Dad yell as he came up the stairs.
"We're in Jesse's room," Skylar yelled as Dad walked into my bedroom.
"Why aren't you both packed?" Dad asked us.
"Well, ask Miss Devious here?" I asked as Dad looked at me, then at Skylar.
"What did you do?" Dad asked Skylar.
"I did nothing," Skylar answered.
"Bull, Skylar is plotting and planning about finding a cute boy," I said, throwing Skylar under the bus as Skylar glared at me.
"Yeah, that's not happening," Dad said.
"Oh, come on, Dad! I'm eighteen and in college now!" Skylar whined.
"Sky, I know what guys are like since I was one of those guys," Dad remarked.
"Ew," we both said as he shrugged.
"Why can't you be like your Uncle Liam? It took him forever to meet someone," Dad told Skylar.
"Aunt Mel thought Uncle Liam was gay and no thanks," Skylar replied.
"Okay, fine," Dad said as I looked at him strangely. Skylar's face lit up. "You can date when she does," Dad said, pointing at me.
"What?" Skylar exclaimed. "Jesse is practicing to be a nun and get none!"
I rolled my eyes.
"Take it or leave it," Dad told her.
"Fine," Skylar huffed. I smirked. Good luck, Skylar, since I'm never dating.
JJ
I needed to leave my daughter's room before I lost my cool. Every time Skylar mentions dating, it made my dick itch. I came downstairs and went into the kitchen as Lydia made dinner.
"What's with all the screaming?" Lydia asked me.
"Oh, Skylar keeps on about dating. I told her she could date when Jesse does," I answered.
Lydia arched an eyebrow at me.
"Don't give me that look," I said as I opened a bottle of water and drank it.
"JJ, you can't keep Skylar from boys forever. One day, she will meet someone, and you're going to have to let go," Lydia reasoned.
"Lyd, I get that, but is it bad that I want to hold on to them a little longer? We get the girls for a short while; then, they leave us," I said as Lydia smiled at me.
"Yeah, but you have to let the girls grow up and hope they meet someone amazing. Plus, the girls are a Shaw," Lydia smirked as I chuckled.
I'm not so worried about Jesse, but Skylar is more innocent. I pray that when they go to college, they're safe, or I'll beat the shit out of the guys, and no one wants that.
Britt
After the graduation fiasco, all hell broke loose at home. Dad and I argued about Patton, and he laid down the law to Nora and me.
"You stay away from those boys. They are nothing but trouble," Dad said firmly.
"It was a joke," I told Dad.
"I don't care, Britt. We aren't raising you both to have delinquents drag you down. The Gray Family has been nothing but trouble for years. I had my fair share of run-ins with their family, and so did my family," Dad argued.
"That is not fair. Our family started it, and the Grays defended themselves," I said defensively.
"Britt, the Grays caused the death of your cousins, Bryson and Roger. They got your Uncle's medical license yanked. I'm surprised they didn't cause Mike and Sarah's death. That family causes nothing but issues. If you both disobey me, I will cut you both off," Dad threatened us. Nora and I stood there.
He left the room as I looked at Mom, who didn't help. I didn't know why our families fought, and no one explained it to us. It sucked. I have to choose between my future or my heart.
My phone lit up, and Pat was calling me. I sent him to voicemail, then sent a text. I needed to talk to him.
I told my parents I'm going to see Josie, but went to see Patton. I met him at a park, and he stood there. I walked over to him.
"Why did you want to meet in the park?" Pat asked curiously.
"We need to talk," I said as he furrowed his brows.
I explained everything to him, which confused him.
"It was a stupid joke. What is your Dad's deal?" Pat asked me.
"I don't know. My Dad said something about our family having an issue with your family. He said your family killed my cousins Bryson and Roger, and some other nonsense," I said.
Pat looked at me, then asked, "Wait. What's your last name?"
"Tilson, why?" I asked.
Pat stepped back and looked at me weirdly.
"Our families had some weird hate with each other, starting with Grampa Nate. Your cousin Bryson humiliated my nana, and Roger was my ma's ex and attacked my Aunt Larkin," Pat told me, shocking me.
"That's a lie!" I yelled.
"Why would I lie about that?" He questioned me. I looked at Pat and knew he was telling me the truth. "Britt, I know you're not like your family. What happened between our families is between them. We can't let the sins of our families past affect our future."
"I want to be with you, but if I do, my dad will cut Nora and me off, which means no school and no future," I said as tears fell. I didn't want to choose between my heart and the future.
I stood there as I looked down while tears fell down my cheeks. I felt hands on my cheeks. I looked at Pat as he looked at me.
"Then don't choose," he said as I furrowed my brows. "What your dad doesn't know won't hurt me," Pat added with a smirk. I hugged him as he wrapped his arms around me.
I didn't care what history was between our families; it wasn't my history, and I shouldn't have to suffer. Pat and I made a plan to be together, keeping it quiet from my Dad. It was a good plan until I got home, and my Dad informed me that a cousin would attend school with us to monitor things. I was furious.
I refuse to let my Dad come between Pat and me. I would be with him. It would take some help from some unexpected people.
