Josie
Classes started, and I went to the library to read a book for English. Yes, I know. I changed my appearance, but I still enjoyed school. People thought I was weird, but it didn't matter. I have plans for my future.
I found a table away from everyone so that I could read in peace. As I sat there and read, someone joined me. When I mean someone, I mean, Payton. I looked at him as he sat across from me, smiling.
I held my book up and asked, "Can I help you?"
"Nope, I came to do some reading," he answered.
I lowered my book and gave him a "are you crazy" look.
"That's funny because I've never seen you with a book," I remarked as Payton gave me an annoyed look.
"Contrary to popular belief, I know how to read and did very well in school," he said.
"That's nice," I replied as I packed up my stuff to move to another table away from Payton. It didn't work since he felt the need to follow me. I kept walking, and he kept following until the librarian kicked us out for disrupting other students.
Thanks a lot, Payton. I left the library, and he followed me.
"Josie!" He yelled as he stopped me.
I looked at him with irritation. "What?"
"Look, I know we didn't get off to a good start, but I thought we could be friends," he mentioned as I looked at him with annoyance.
"Payton, you don't want to be my friend because of me," I told him.
"Sure, I do," he responded.
"If you wanted to be my friend, you would have called me by the right name when you saw me the previous times," I informed him. He looked at me. "You only want to be my friend now because of how I look. No, thank you," I said as I walked away, leaving him standing there in his spot.
I've liked this guy for years, and he never once noticed me until I changed my looks. Now, he wants to be friends. No, thanks, I don't need someone like that in my life.
Payton
I stood there as I heard someone make a crash sound with their mouth. I turned to see Park standing next to me.
"Do you mind?" I asked him.
"Nope," he said with a smirk as I rolled my eyes.
"You're not helping," I told him.
"Sure, I am. You're crashing all on your own. I'm just adding the sound effects." He smiled as I groaned. "Brother, you have some serious issues with one girl. You're failing miserably at it. You need a lot of help."
"Instead of running your pie hole, why don't you help me?" I asked him.
"Fine, I will." He shrugged. "First, stop acting like a tool. Second, don't be a twit. Finally, be someone else, and when I mean someone else, not you."
"How is that supposed to help me?" I questioned him.
"It's not," he replied as I felt my eye twitched as he smirked. I walked away. Parker was of no help.
I called one person to help me. I don't even think I should call them, but I did.
Hello? They answered.
"Hey, grandpa," I greeted them.
Hey, Pay. What's up?
"I'm having an issue and need some advice," I said.
What's the issue?
"There's this girl who won't give me the time of day. I know you and Nana had some issues. I wanted to know what I should do?" I asked him.
Well, don't listen to your grandpa because he needed our help with your Nana. Nixon said on the other end.
Do you mind, Nix? Grandpa asked him with irritation.
Dude, you always screwed things up with Maggie. I'm surprised she married your dumbass. If it weren't for us, you would probably still be alone. Not that she's a prize, but at least she's better than nothing. Nixon told Grandpa.
"How is that helping me with my dilemma?" I asked them.
It's not, but you need some help from brothers from another mother. We'll see you soon.
Click.
I stood there, thinking about what Nixon meant. See you soon? Then my eyes widened. Oh, dear God. Yeah, I was in deep shit if certain people came. It's time for reinforcements.
Nash
I looked at Nixon as he smirked.
"I don't think that's what he meant," I say to him.
"Oh, it's what he meant. Your grandson is clueless, just like his grandpappy with women. Did the stupid gene get passed down? It missed Lex and went straight to Payton," Nix retorted.
"That's not funny," I told him.
"That's hilarious," Nathan laughed. I looked at him as Noah and Nolan nodded while smiling.
"Listen, loafers, buy something or get out," I told my brothers.
"You're terrible at customer service, big brother," Noah told me.
I'm getting annoyed by the minute. Only my brothers could annoy me this way.
"He's not wrong. You suck at relationships," Nolan commented as we all looked at him. "Do I lie? No, I don't."
"Don't think I can't beat your ass still," I warned Nolan.
"Good luck," he replied. I shook my head.
Lex brought out a tray of baked goods and saw us standing there.
"I don't want to know," he told us.
"It involves Payton," Noah informed him.
"Then I don't want to know," he replied as he emptied the tray and went back into the kitchen.
"The only father we know that doesn't feel the need to interfere with their kid's love life," Nathan mentioned.
"Yep," Noah agreed.
"We're not interfering. We're just going to help. The Gray way," Nixon said as I looked at him. My brothers were something else. Something told me I would see my daughters soon since the boys were close to them. If I knew Payton and I did, he would make a call.
Lyric
My phone rang, and I answered it. Payton told me he made a terrible mistake. I told him he was right; he did. After listening to him, I hung up. I looked at Larkin.
"What was that?" Larkin asked.
"Payton called dad about girl problems," I told her.
"Is he on crack?" She asked.
"I think so," I replied.
"You don't call dad," Lakin mentioned.
"You do if you want the uncles involved," Luna added.
"Where's our dipshit brother?" Larkin asked.
"Staying out of it," I told them.
"That doesn't surprise me. Lex hates games," Lake said.
"Still, it's his kids. He needs to deal with them," Lark told her.
While they argued, I sat there, thinking. Payton was like Dad, clueless and dumb. Dad hurt ma many times, and Payton probably did the same thing to this girl. Our uncles have some weird need to tie up people, but I had a novel idea.
It was time to make a call. This plan will blow up in our face or work out. I'm going with the first option.
