Umbrella

It had been a few days since the ankle incident and Y/n was now strong enough to walk properly. Felix was perched on the edge of her bed, eager to spend some more time with his girlfriend, who was equally enthusiastic to make the most of her returned freedom.

"So now that you're all healed, why don't we go on another date?" he suggested.

Y/n swallowed her mouthful of cookie (courtesy of Eunhee's surprisingly good baking skills) and nodded, "What - and when - did you have in mind?"

"Well, I don't have anything planned after my photoshoot today and I know this amazing Korean BBQ place, I'm a regular there so we don't have to worry about getting any weird looks."

"Okay, sounds good so far." Y/n smiled and scooched closer to Felix, clasping his hand. He flashed her a flustered grin and continued.

"Haha, yeah. So I was thinking maybe we could meet in front of your workplace after you've finished your shift, sooo 8? It isn't far from there and then we can walk together."

"Alright, let's do that then."

"Cool."

"Cool." Y/n waited for Felix to say something else but he just sat there, staring at her with this goofy smile on his face. She arched an eyebrow in question.

"Oh, right." he blinked furiously and rapidly stood up, "Well, I er- I better go now," he stumbled over a chair leg as he grabbed his jacket, "but I'll see you at 8." Felix smiled broadly at her and Y/n felt her lips twitch in amusement.

"See you at 8, freckles" she replied with a wave and shut the door behind him before chuckling to herself. Then, she started raiding her wardrobe to find something appropriate to wear before she left for work. Settling for a cute floral print dress, Y/n spent some time accessorising and putting on makeup so that she would only have to touch it up after her shift. Once she was satisfied with her look, she went off to the café.

As she entered, Taehyun whistled and Soojin rushed up to her.

"Oh my gosh, Y/n. You look stunning! What's going on?"

Y/n blushed and chewed on her lip to prevent a wild grin spreading across her face, "I've got a date tonight..."

Soojin gasped. "This is so exciting! You have to tell me everything." she wrapped an arm around Y/n's shoulders and whisked her round to the back whilst Taehyun rolled his eyes.

As a result of Soojin's extreme curiosity and Taehyun's mild interest, Y/n was even more exhausted by the end of her shift than usual - especially since she had to constantly remind herself not to mention anything that could expose Felix's real identity. Damn, having a secret boyfriend was hard. When she was finally free to go, Y/n found a spot in the café by the window to watch out for Felix.

She was now on her third coffee and the other employees were starting to give her pitying looks but Y/n kept her chin held high and watched the world outside turn from dusk to night, never doubting for a moment that he was coming. Her faith did not falter even when it turned 10 and the manager had to lock up. She simply got up and walked outside with the manager. She huddled herself under the ledge in front of the café for what little shelter it offered and stared ahead into the crowd, silently searching for that special face. Her manager patted her shoulder before walking away with a grim expression. 15 minutes later and it started to rain but Y/n remained, shivering in the cold and glanced again at her phone:

Y/n: Lix, where are you? (8:15)

Y/n: Are you still at the photoshoot? (8:35)

Y/n: Are you almost done? (8:37)

Y/n: Felix, are you okay? (9:02)

Y/n: Felix?? (9:08)

Y/n: Please let me know when you're on your way, I'm getting worried. (9:46)

Felix hadn't been this stressed since the survival show. The photoshoot had been late to start but he thought that he could make up for lost time. Alas, it seemed the harder he tried to speed things up, the longer it took. The staff were now lecturing him on how 'these things can't be rushed' and 'none of these are working, you're too tense' or the classic 'just relax'. Relax? How could he relax when every minute he was supposed to be spending with Y/n was slipping away? When everyone was finally satisfied with the results, he bolted without even bothering to change. Someone yelled after him that he couldn't just take those clothes and that they would be ruined in the rain but he didn't care; he had to get to Y/n, now. Felix didn't dare check his phone to see how late he was, to see if Y/n had left, if she hated him. He just pushed himself harder and sprinted into the rain, water splashing up his legs with every step and droplets running down his face, dripping off his eyelashes and nose.

Chan was just leaving a store down the street of the café Y/n worked at when he saw her. He stilled as he recognised her trembling frame. Her head was down but it was definitely Y/n. She must be freezing in that flimsy dress. I should go to her and walk her home. Maybe now is my chance to express my feelings. Chan turned back into the store and searched for an umbrella to share with Y/n, trepidation bubbling up inside of him.

Y/n clutched her hands to her chest in a vain attempt to preserve some warmth. Please hurry Felix. I don't know how much longer I can do this. As if her thoughts had summoned him, she heard thundering steps as someone ran towards her and her name being called out in an unmistakable low voice. Her head shot up and she saw Felix, standing a few feet in front of her, completely drenched. He paused only for a moment to catch his breath before launching into a desperate plea for forgiveness.

"Y/n, I am so so sorry. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel. The photoshoot was running late and I tried Y/n, I really tried to make it out on time but my hurrying only seemed to make it worse and I know that ---"

His words no longer reached her ears. She took a step into the rain towards him, and another. She was no longer sure if it was the rain or tears pouring down her cheeks but she kept walking and Felix kept talking, his eyes filled with worry, dread, guilt. It didn't matter, she thought. He was here, he had come, he was safe. Then she did what she would never have thought she'd have the courage to do: Y/n reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissed him. Not a peck this time, but a deep kiss; full of understanding and forgiveness and relief. At first, there was no response with Felix being frozen in shock, but then he melted into her touch. He put his hands on her waist, pulling Y/n closer to him and returned the kiss with just as much passion. Neither paid any attention to the torrential rain pelting down around them or the thud behind them - they were too lost in each other.

Chan had left the store merrily holding his newly-purchased red umbrella and glanced over to Y/n, readying himself. He had been rehearsing what he was going to say in his head as he'd gone around the shop. Chan took a step towards her but stopped when he saw someone running towards her, calling her name. Every muscle in his body tensed and rage began to build within him. Had she been stood up? Had someone left her waiting in this weather? His body started to move again, determined to give this dickhead a piece of his mind until he saw his face. Identifying this 'dickhead' as Felix, he paused again. What the hell was going on? Then he saw Y/n walk towards him. Chan wasn't within earshot so he couldn't hear what they were saying but he watched as she raised her hands towards his face. He watched as she tugged him towards her, he watched as they kissed in the rain. Chan's mind went completely blank. He couldn't move. He couldn't think. He was vaguely aware of his hand releasing the umbrella and it thudding onto the ground, water now trickling down his face. But he felt nothing - he was numb.
