"Ace, you can't be serious." I huffed. "These guys, they're harmless." I tried to reassure him but I knew that was false. They can try to make a move on me whenever they want and I'd be to weak to fight them all off unless I carried a gun with me or something which probably won't happen.
"Guess what, Lydia? I am serious." He says in a final tone.
"Well, I don't care whether you're serious or not, I'm going for the job and I do not care what you think." I can't even believe the very harsh words as they slipped out of my tongue. Ace, too, as his eyes widened in disbelief and his jaw clenched.
"Convince me that you'll be okay if you work there, Lydia." He says, his tone slowly becoming softer and gentler. His eyes glimmered with hope. All of my anger towards him was washed away in a blink and subsided by plain disappointment...at my own self.
"I will be. There are cameras there that will prevent them from trying anything, plus I would never go inside the kitchen alone, I'd always stay outside and wait for the food to be delivered to me." I reassured him. The idea still didn't please him but I think he knew better than to start an argument with me. For once, I felt like I had the upper hand in an argument and I feel good about it.
We arrived at my house and Ace waited in the car as I entered the house and I was relieved to see that both my mom and Cara weren't home. I got dressed into a small and plain wine dress. It was strapless and it exposed my thighs and a little bit of cleavage. I know I wouldn't usually go for this type of clothes but I didn't feel like being judged tonight, in fact, I even wanted to 'fit in' as horrible as it sounded. I didn't want to straighten my hair because I knew it'd take me time so I just let it cascade down my back naturally.
When I reached back downstairs, I made sure that everything I needed was with me, including a few cash, my phone and the house keys. I thought about going there in my own car incase Ace bailed on me like last time, however, I decided against it.
I climbed inside the car and it was silent except for the typing noise that Ace made. I didn't dare to look inside his phone or invade his privacy so my eyes were fixated on my bare thighs as I instantly began feeling remorseful of choosing to wear this. I tugged down at the hem of my dress and pulled it downwards and that was when Ace finally recognized my presence.
"Holy shit, I didn't even know you got in-" Ace begins to say but he pauses as his icy gaze begins to rake over my body. I was aware that there was very little to the imagination considering the fact that I was showing too much skin. "Uhm." He gulped, trying to look away from me but failing drastically which caused my lips to curl into a humorous yet shy smile. "You look...different." He says and his words heavily disappoint me. I mean why should I even expect him to say something like, 'you look hot'. I know he most probably wouldn't.
"Different?" I cannot help but chuckle. "This dress is out of my league. I never wear this stuff."
"Then why'd you wear it?"
"I wanted a change I guess. I didn't feel like being judged by a bunch of girls."
"Please, look at you." He gestures over at my body and my cheeks immediately heat. I can't imagine how many girls Ace attracts with his undeniable charms and enchanting words. "Those girls are nothing compared to you."
