"Can we go in my car?" I asked before we got into his car.
"No, after I drop you off I have to head somewhere." Ace says, rubbing the back of his head and giving me an apologetic smile.
"Oh." I reply flatly, not wanting to question it.
"Hey, can I ask you a question?" He asks and starts the ignition of the car. The look on his face tells me to say no, but I say yes anyway.
"What are you planning to do after high school? Are you interested in some major?"
"I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking maybe business." I said. I expected him to mention how he can get his father to help me in that but I'm glad he didn't.
"Now's my turn to ask a question." I stated and I instantly asked it before he can protest. "Why aren't you close with your dad? You guys look like you fight a lot." I chuckled nervously, wishing he would've laughed with me.
"I hate my father, Lydia." He sighs and begins to drive us to the freeway. I pretended that I didn't hear him so that the mood in the car doesn't become more dreadful. I'm assuming he hates him because of him remarrying? I didn't want to push it right now. He'd probably either blow up in my face or distance himself if I did. Both terrible things.
Witnessing this other side of him, the dark and mysterious one was different yet very intriguing. I chose to set it aside for now.
"I have another question." I tumbled quickly in a childish manner.
"You said you'd ask one question." He grumbles.
"I didn't specify how many." I grin smugly. "Anyway, how do you know Dean? The owner of LCDP?" I chose not to make a fool out of myself this time by saying the actual name again. Ace sighs in disappointment and ran a hand through his hair, muttering curse worse under his breath. I can tell he doesn't like to talk about this.
"I had some business with his daughter." He says in a low voice but I managed to hear him. He then mumbled something I couldn't make out, probably some more curse words.
"And you guys obviously broke up right? Isn't Dean supposed to hate you or something?" I chuckle and try to make a joke out of this. Ace didn't seem to be bothered by it and I'm relieved.
"He wants to bring us back. We dated like five fucking years ago." He sneered.
"Don't curse." I smacked him. I didn't mind it when he cursed, I just wanted an excuse to hit him...in a playful way of course.
"This is my damn car, I can do whatever the bloody hell I fucking want." He says and I burst into little chuckles and gave him another smack in the shoulder. The sounds of our chuckling were combined together and made such a beautiful sound. I'd do anything to repeat this moment over and over. Our laughters gradually died down as he pulled over in front of the restaurant.
We got inside and we were welcomed by a tall waitress with an hourglass figure. Her curly black hair cascaded onto one shoulder. They were both much taller than me. From the looks of it, she seems to recognize Ace but he barely knew who she was, or maybe he's just acting.
I looked at her tag and it said Sophia. I didn't suspect anything until Dean came up behind her. I already know what's about to happen before it does.
"Long time no see, Sophia." Ace says and scratches the back of his head. He looks like he didn't want to see her. I wonder why.
"Ace, hey." She waves at him with her free hand. A small and empty notebook occupied her other hand. Dean snaked his hand around her shoulder and smiled widely at us both. I kindly returned his sweet gesture.
