"Why the sudden change of heart?"
"Hmm?" I murmur to Ace who's sitting next to me on my bed. His arms were crossed behind his head.
"Why did you decide to come back to me again? I don't blame you though." He smirks.
"Ace what are you doing?"
"Showing you what you're missing." He says and lifts his shirt over his head. He leans closer and I'm almost too tempted not to touch his chest. My fingers ran across his soft skin and they stopped on his back's tattoo.
"Lydia!" My mother booms through the door.
—
"Just a nightmare Lyd, just a stupid nightmare." I whisper to myself and place my hand over my wild and panting chest. Why the hell was Ace's stupid face in my dreams. Actually no his face his beautiful. But stupid still, I can't remember it as the most beautiful face I've ever seen.
"What?" A voice asks. I almost jumped.
"You startled me, Cara." I exhaled a breath I didn't know I was holding as Cara appeared in front of me. The dim light in the room deprived me from seeing her face expression.
"Sorry you were just talking in your sleep."
"T-Talking?" I stuttered, making Cara even more suspicious. "How much did you hear?"
"Just mumbling." She says and runs a hand through her blond hair. She puts it up into a messy bun. "You should sleep, you have school tomorrow."
"And work..." I groan, palming my face.
"Wait what?" Oh no. I should keep my mouth shut at all times.
"It's nothing."
"I heard you, Lyd. I'm not stupid."
"Actually, no you are." I chuckle, trying to stall. She rolls her eyes bluntly and sighs. My attempt in changing the subject always fails so I could just play dumb for a while.
"I'm serious."
"Are you?" I tease.
"You know you can't stall forever right?" She's right.
"You never told me you got a job. What job anyway? Is it like drugs and stuff?"
"No. I work as waitress in an Italian restaurant." I give in. She can't know who introduced me to the job in the first place. "It's called La Casa di Porchetta and it's right around the block."
"I know it." She says. I nodded slowly. "It's a nice place."
"Yeah..." I sigh.
"Okay? Goodnight then I guess." I say.
"Night." She says in a voice, different from hers. Does she know something? That will be tomorrow's problem because I'm too tired to the point where I can't even yawn.

The next morning, I went to school and avoided Ryder for the whole day. It's not like he clung onto me or anything but it's just weird to see him in such a different state. I certainly wish him all the best and to develop feelings for someone who cares for him but I still feel a wave of awkwardness crash upon me whenever we make eye contact. After school, I headed to work right away. It's my second day and I'm supposed to start wearing the uniform today so I did and it didn't look half-bad as I imagined it to be. I ran into Kaleb out of all the people I could have run into first.
"Hey." I wave awkwardly. I don't know what's wrong with me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm so affected by Ace's words that everything in my life has taken a weird turn.
