"Hey." I respond to Ryder.
"This is Kennedy. She's my girlfriend. Kennedy, this is Tori and that's Lydia, my best friends."
I looked over to Tori but she gave me a sympathetic smile. Maybe she didn't know about Ryder getting a girlfriend. I'm glad Ryder still considered me his best friend, it somehow gave me hope of u getting back to what we used to be.
I gulped as I took in her figure. How wouldn't he go for her? Of course he would. Her blond hair, similar to mine but not close enough, was a shoulder-length and in bundles of waves. Her eyes were a pretty blue or green, I can't decide and she was wearing a pink and white striped sleeveless dress. I can tell she's a nice person just by looking at her.
"Hi." She says, her voice softer than I imagined.
"Hey." Tori responds and I smile.
"Do you guys wanna go and grab some coffee with us or something?" Ryder offers. It's still so weird to see him with someone else.
I didn't know people can get over others that easily. It's almost like he didn't even mean what he said to me about his feelings. Maybe he abandoned them but I don't blame him. He's not going to wait for me to love him back, I know that.
Before I can answer, Tori blurted out a no. I'm glad she did but at the same time, I still feel terrible about how I made Ryder feel. It's not fair.
"We have some things to do. I'll call you and we'll catch up later, Ryd." Tori continues. A small and kind smile was plastered on Kennedy's face all along.
"Alright, I guess we'll see you later then." Ryder responds.
"We?" Tori questions when we leave them to head to the car.
"I don't know. Thanks for that save by the way." I chuckled humorlessly and she smiled in response. We climbed into the car and she drove me home. Before I got out, I reminded her that I'll pay her back for that dress.
When I got inside, I rushed up to my room to hang my dress. I still need to fix a few things about it and get it ironed but today's not the day. My feet are sore from all the walking we did around the mall looking for a dress.
I'm glad I went with this one, it's not too bad. Actually, scratch that, it's beyond beautiful. I like the way it looks on me and how magical to the touch the fabric of it is. I made sure to leave some space between it and other dresses and clothes so that they wouldn't press up against my new dress, even though it had a plastic cover.
I decided to call Cara in to show her the dress. I still don't feel very comfortable around her like how we used to be but I guess if we spend more time together, that uncomfortable phase will pass. I showed her the dress and I prayed that the plastic cover wouldn't ruin how the dress looked.
By the look on her face, I can tell it didn't. Her jaw was hung open and her eyes widened. She placed her hands on her cheeks.
"This totally matches your style!" She shrills.
"You think?"
"Totally. Who's escorting you?" She asks and I pause to think about it for a second. For a second, just a second, I wanted Ace to be the one to escort me to the dance. But then I remembered that Tori is going to go with me.
"Tori." I tell her. "We both don't have dates so we're going together." I shrug. I always saw these girls in high school movies that go with their best friends to prom and they look as weird as ever, I really hope I don't look like one of those.
"That's cool. I haven't saw her in a while, we should all go out."
"Sure, I'll tell her."
She smiled and left the room. I'm glad we're figuring this out together. I undressed from my bra and tossed it on the floor. I plopped on my bed and rested my head in my palms, I have no idea what to do. Then it hit me, Ace is supposed to come over today. I rushed up to pick something decent to wear. I was in a purple shirt and dark wash jeans, I probably don't look my best.
