I giggle softly, tickling Emma gently. Tommy leans over and kisses my cheek, then goes back to folding the laundry.
All three of us are sitting on the living room floor, folding the laundry and hanging out. Well, obviously Emma isn't helping and honestly neither am I.
Thomas doesn't mind, happily folding the clothing as I play with Emma. She yawns softly and I pick her up, holding her close as she stretches slightly before closing her eyes and falling asleep.
"James and his girlfriend are coming over later to discuss some of the legal stuff about the divorce and custody and all of that," Thomas reminds me softly.
I sigh and nod, rocking Emma gently.
"I don't wanna talk to him or even see him. I don't want him anywhere near Em. I especially don't want to see that woman he's sleeping with now," I grumble.
"Emma is their daughter. They don't want custody of her but they deserve to see her," he sighs, scootching closer to us and wrapping his arms around me.
The doorbell rings and I sigh softly.
"I'll get it, can you at least go put Emma down for her nap?"
He nods and we both stand up.
"C'mere, sweetpea," he murmurs, taking her from me carefully.
I grin softly and go to answer the door.
"Hello James," I fakely grin.
"Hello Alexander," he smiles just as forcedly.
He and his "girlfriend" take a step in and I close the door behind them.
Thomas comes back downstairs and smiles at both of them and gives a lil wave.
"Where's Emily?" His girlfriend asks.
"Emma is upstairs sleeping," I glare and Thomas places a hand on my shoulder.
We all sit down at the kitchen table and start going over everything. I feel a headache forming and I sigh softly.
"I'm gonna... I'm gonna go check on Emma," I murmur, pecking Thomas on the cheek before heading upstairs.
I walk upstairs and head into our room, trying to keep the tears from spilling over.
I sit on the edge of the bed and put my head in my hands, starting to cry softly.
I sniffle softly as I hear footsteps coming up the staircase. I quickly wipe my eyes and stand up, pretending like I'm checking on Emma.
Thomas walks in and sighs softly.
"What's wrong, Lex? You've been crying."
"I just... I hate this. I never wanted to marry him in the first place but I let myself get attached and then just as I think everything's getting better, all of this sh- stuff happens. And I love you but I'm so scared the same thing will happen and you'll leave me too... Everyone I love either leaves me or dies and at this point, I can't stand to lose you," I sob softly.
Thomas wraps me in a hug and I cry into his shirt, letting him hold me.
"Lex. I can promise you one thing. I'm not leaving. I'm never going to leave you or Emma. Ever."
I sniffle and look up at him. He softly wipes away my tears and I lean into him.
"R-really?"
"Really. In fact, I have a little something I want to give you..."
He pulls out a silver ring from his pocket and grins softly at me.
"It's just a promise ring... But I want you to always have something to remind you that I love you. Whenever you're feeling scared or lonely, just look at the ring and know I love you and Emma endlessly."
