There the two of them were, sitting at a little table at some cheap cafe, an iced tea in each of their hands. Autumn was really taking its time to come around that year; people were still wearing shorts outdoors. Dan had never been to this little place before, though Phil seemed pretty familiar with it. “I go here quite a lot actually,” he mumbled on, occasionally sipping from his tea, “It’s so small and I’m guessing I’m the only one keeping this place running due to my frequent recents, but I guess I just like the feeling it gives off. It’s like visiting your favorite relative and them making you a pile of treats.”
Dan smiled to himself as Phil went on about the little shop, listening to how he described every little detail of the place. It almost allowed Dan to see how the place actually looked like, though it was a very vague image. “I’m sorry,” Phil sighed, “I’m probably boring you with my blab-”
“Not at all,” Dan waved dismissively, “I think it’s cute how you feel so passionate about this place.” Dan immediately realized the words that flew out of his mouth and his cheeks flushed with red. He honestly didn’t mean to call Phil cute, it just sort of slipped out. He didn’t even think of Phil that way; the two of them only knew each other for about a week. “That’s n-not what I meant I, um, shit,” Dan stammered, tightening his hands around his cup.
“It’s alright,” Dan suddenly heard Phil laugh amongst himself, “Most people think I’m a freak for liking this place so much so it’s nice for someone to think otherwise.” Dan sighed with relief and slumped his shoulders, relaxing a bit. “Who said I didn’t think you were a freak?” Dan scoffed before feeling a foot hit his shin lightly, him letting out a giggle.
“So, what’s your favorite place?” Phil subconsciously leaned closer in, “What place makes you feel the way this place makes me feel?” Dan thought for minute before shrugging. He didn’t really have a favorite place, he never went anywhere to actually have one. There was that pool that him and PJ hung out at for almost all of the summer, but he wouldn’t necessarily call it his favorite.
“What do you mean you don’t know?” Phil gasped dramatically at Dan’s shrug, “You’ve got to have at least one place.” Dan shook his head, “I don’t really go anywhere. Just school and home, that’s it really.” It was silent for a bit and Dan almost believe that Phil had left. “Phil? You still there?” Dan tensed up a bit.
“Have you ever seen how PJ looked like?” Phi suddenly asked, making Dan jump slightly. “Jesus Phil, don’t do that,” Dan groaned, “And, no I was born blind so I’ve never really seen anything actually.” Phil thought for a minute, taking a sip from his tea. “You know what?” Phil got up from his chair, throwing his cup into the trash can near by, “We’re going to the movies.”
“But, I’m blind,” Dan countered but Phil only shook his head, grabbing Dan’s arm and pulling him up. “We’re going and I’m going to describe every little thing that happens,” Phil stated, not sounding like he was up for negotiation. Dan didn’t even have the chance to throw out his cup before Phil began dragging him towards the nearest theater around.

Phil jumped as the image of some bloody, ripped up girl flashed across the screen. The screeching emitting loudly from the speakers around the two of them almost made Dan fall out of his seat. “That torn up girl escaped from the closet somehow,” Phil whispered, his eyes staying on the screen.
The two decided to go to whatever movie was playing at the time, which was unfortunately some sort of low-budget horror film. But, to Phil’s surprise, it was actually better than he thought. There was an actual plot, but it also included tons of pop ups to keep it interesting. The loud sounds coming from the speakers was also a plus, therefore Phil wouldn’t be the only one of the two to be crapping his pants.
“How the hell did she escape?” Dan sounded rather panicked after the last screech. “I didn’t direct the movie, Dan,” Phil sighed sarcastically only to be shocked with another pop up, “God dammit, these pop ups are really getting to me.” Dan only nodded in agreement as he was yet again paralyzed by the loud bang that flowed from the speakers.
“How long is this movie?” Dan whispered, “I don’t think I have much time left before I literally have an accident.” Phil laughed, a bit too loud, getting shushed by the person behind him. “Only about ten minu-”
“Oh my God!” Phil got interrupted as the girls shredded face zoomed into the camera. The noise soon hit Dan’s ears, causing him to jump as well. His arm flew up to grab the armrest, only to be placed on top of someone elses hand that had already gotten to it before his did. “Oh shit, I’m sorry,” Dan mumbled, pulling his hand away just as his fingers grazed the top of Phil’s knuckles. “It’s alright,” Phil muttered, pulling his hand from the armrest as well, the feeling of Dan’s cold fingers lightly lingering on his knuckles.
Dan stayed quiet, not bothering to ask what was going on in the film as the tenseness built between him and Phil. It wasn’t a big deal, Dan thought to himself. He just accidentally placed his hand over Phil’s for only a second, it didn’t matter. Dan needed to relax. After all, it was only Phil, and Dan knew that Phil didn’t care.

The movie ended and Dan and Phil were the first out of the little theater. They headed down the streets, Phil guiding Dan around every corner. They stayed silent as they both walked, only the sound of Dan’s white cane tapping against the ground could be heard.
The tension between had gone away, but Dan didn’t really feel like talking. All though the tension had gone, Dan was still hung up on it. He was practically beating himself for it. If he wasn’t blind, he’d see that Phil’s hand was on the armrest. If he wasn’t blind, he’d know he shouldn’t have placed his hand there. If he wasn’t blind, he’d be able to see Phil’s reaction to their hands touching.
The two soon arrived outside Dan’s house. “Thanks,” Dan grinned as he dug around in his pocket for his keys, “It was actually surprisingly fun.” Phil watched as Dan took the keys out of his pocket. “Let me,” he interrupted Dan’s actions, placing his hand over Dan’s.
Dan froze still as their hands made contact once again. It was tacky really, the way Dan was making such a big deal of their hands just touching, but he couldn’t help it. He didn’t know why, but he felt something when it happened, both times.
Phil slowly took the keys from Dan’s hand, holding his hand still for only two seconds before slowly pulling his hand away and unlocking Dan’s door. He slowly placed the keys back in Dan’s hand before placing his hand back at his side.
“So, see you tomorrow I guess,” Phil rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as Dan pushed the door open. “Yeah, thanks again for today,” Dan smiled, “But, we really need to get a start on that project.” Phil let out a slight laugh, nodding his head, before remembering Dan couldn’t see him.
“We really do,” he sighed, “Would’ve been better if we didn’t go to the theater and actually started working.” Dan smirked and shook his head. “No, it was good that we went to the movies,” he said, “Wouldn’t have found my favorite place if we didn’t.” Phil’s eyes widened for a minute before he smiled and looked down at his feet.
“Well, I’m glad we’ve found your favorite place,” he grinned and Dan nodded. “Well, bye,” Dan murmured, sounding more upset than he’d expected. And, without a second thought, Phil quickly moved up to Dan and wrapped his arms around him, giving him a hug. Dan stood still for a second, feeling shocked at the sudden warmth of Phil’s body, before he slowly wrapped his arms around him.
And, just like that, after the two of them let go, Dan turned and guided himself into the house, closing the door behind him, leaving Phil standing alone, a smile on his face.
