A/N:

Ew, Wattpad updated the site and it's so gross now. Anyways, sorry I've been out for the last two weeks. I'm here now with a Thanksgiving present so no worries! Here's chapter eight of The Way He Looks! Enjoy!

<><><><>

Monday morning, Dan woke up on his grandma’s couch, his feet up on the arm rest since the couch was too small to fit his entire body. His parents decided to go away for the weekend and of course, being the overprotective mom and dad they were, they made Dan stay at his grandparent’s place.

It wasn’t the fact that he had to stay there that bothered him, it was the fact that Dan was already sixteen and he was still being treated like a five year old. It really frustrated him, the fact that he already couldn’t do half of the things others did because of him being blind. And, then having his parents restrain him from doing even more things really got to him.

“Morning, Danny,” his Grandma hummed as she walked into the lounge, carrying a tray with pancakes and orange juice. She placed the tray down and sat on the empty space Dan provided for her. “How’d you sleep?” she asked softly as Dan stretched his arms.

“Pretty well, though I think it’s about time to get a bigger sofa,” Dan huffed as his grandma let out a little giggle. Dan leaned over and took a bite of one of the pancakes. He smiled as the sweet taste of syrup slid down his throat, his teeth chewing on the soft dough. “Do I ever forget how to mention how good these are, gran?” Dan grinned and his grandma patted his back.

“Gran, can I ask you something?” Dan suddenly asked, placing down his fork and his half eaten pancake. “Yes, what is it sweetie?” she waited and Dan sighed. “How did you and grandpa meet?” he asked and she smiled to herself.

“Well, your grandpa was what I’d call the odd one out at the school,” she explained, “Though he was a looker, looked a lot like you.” Dan blushed and nudged his grandma’s arm playfully before she continued to talk. “Aside from his looks, he only had one friend at the school,” she spoke, “And, then I came, the new student at the school and he immediately caught my attention. I sat behind him in one of his classes and we became good friends, and soon enough both developed feelings for one another. And, the rest is history.”

Dan nodded, “Do you still love him?” His grandma laughed and sighed before taking Dan’s empty plate and putting it away in the kitchen. When she came back she sat and held Dan’s hand in hers. “Some days more than others, but there’s no other man in my life that I’d rather be with,” she said.

Suddenly the bell rang and Dan got up. “That’s Peej,” Dan smiled before feeling his grandma peck him on his cheek. “Okay sweetie, be safe,” she hugged him, “Love you.” “Love you too, gran,” he nodded before guiding himself out of the room.

Dan sat with PJ on the usual bench outside of the school as the lunch bell rang throughout the school. “So, are you still mad at me or?” Dan asked and PJ shrugged. “I don’t know, I mean it’s not like you care,” PJ mumbled, “You’d probably run off back to Phil if I said our friendship was over.”

“Oh, come on Peej,” Dan groaned, “Why do you all of a sudden hate Phil? You two were cool about a week ago.” PJ looked down at the ground and sighed. “Things just changed since he came,” he muttered, “When it was just us, you didn’t want to do anything. You never went to the movies, you never did anything even when I asked you to, and now all of a sudden you’re doing anything and everything with Phil.”

“Look, I’m sorry Peej, you kn--”

“Hey guys!” Carrie suddenly ran up to the two of them, a huge smile on her face, “Do you know where Phil is?” PJ scoffed and Dan sighed lightly. “I don’t know Carrie, why don’t you go--”

“Oh, there he is!” Carrie interrupted PJ before he could say anything and ran off towards Phil. “Oh God, what a slut,” PJ rolled his eyes, “It’s one thing to like the guy, but attacking him like that whenever you see him is a different story.” Dan stayed silent as PJ rambled on about Carrie.

“Jesus Christ, now she’s playing with his hair,” PJ spoke, “Oh, and now she’s grabbing his hand!” Dan suddenly began to feel the familiar feeling boil up inside his chest. He shifted uncomfortably as PJ continued to describe everything the two were doing.

“And now they--”

“Um Peej, I’ve got to go,” Dan quickly jumped up, throwing his bag over his shoulder and opening up his walking stick. “Oh, um okay,” PJ said sounding confused, “Meet me after school.” Dan nodded before running off around the corner. Honestly, Dan had nowhere to go, he just couldn’t take that growing feeling inside him any longer.

“Did you hear that question Carrie asked in class today?” Dan blurted out, pretending to trace his fingers over the brail in his book, “She can be so daft sometimes.” Phil shrugged, him being focused on his book about Greek Mythology, “Poor girl.”

“What do you mean ‘poor girl’,” Dan muttered stubbornly, “Does somebody like her?” Phil looked up from his book, his eyebrows raised in confusion. “Why do you care so much?” he asked and Dan shook his head. “I don’t,” he mumbled before changing the subject.

“What did she want from you at lunch today?” he asked as Phil shut his book, not being able to concentrate any longer. “Oh yeah, her parents are going away for the weekend and she’s having a party,” Phil announced, “I’m going to DJ for her.” Dan nodded but stayed silent, not knowing what to say.

“You know, she said you could come too,” PJ said and Dan immediately piped up. “Um, are you sure you want me to go?” he slouched his shoulders, “I could be a bit boring during parties.” Phil smiled and nodded, “Of course I want you to go.”

Dan’s phone suddenly rang with PJ’s ringtone and he place the speaker to his ear. “He—”

“What the fuck, Dan!” PJ shouted through the phone and Dan grimaced at his tone. “What did I do?” Dan defended himself. “You were supposed to meet me after school,” PJ lowered his voice but still kept his angry tone.

“Oh shit, Peej,” Dan sat up, “I’m so sorry; I had to get home to work on the project with Phi-”

“There it goes with Phil again!” PJ groaned and Dan sighed, “It’s always Phil, Phil, Phil.” Dan shook his head as PJ complained through the speaker. It was getting annoying with how jealous PJ was getting. He should’ve known that Dan wouldn’t just ditch him because of Phil. Even if he was getting closer to Phil with each minute that passed, he’d still never replace PJ.

“Peej, come on--”

“No Dan, save it,” PJ stopped his sentence, “I’m sure Phil wants to get back to this project of yours.” Dan opened his mouth to say something when he heard the line disconnect. He put his phone down and sighed. “What’s wrong?” Phi asked and Dan only shook his head, knowing that the last thing PJ would want is Dan getting Phil into this fight.
