A/N:

Woah. Next chapter already. Yeah IK, no need to thank me. I'll be updating the last chapter tomorrow for Phil's birthday. For now, here's chapter twenty of The Way He Looks!

Dan hurried down the stairs to get the door before either of his parents could. But, once he neared the entryway, he already heard his mother talking to Phil and his parents, welcoming them in. Dan guided himself to her side and smiled shyly, hoping Phil explained to his disability to his parents.

“Nice to finally meet you, Dan,” a woman’s voice spoke, “My name’s Liz, Phil’s told us so much about you.” Phil blushed as his mom spoke and he quickly nudged her arm. Dan smiled slightly before nodding his head and smiling, “Nice to meet you, Liz.”

“And, my name’s Brian,” a man spoke up with a deep voice, “Nice meeting you, Dan.” Dan smiled and bowed his head, feeling slightly intimidated by the deep voice. “Now, come in,” Dan’s mother interjected, “I’ve got some snacks and wine that we can eat while Dan and Phil work on their project upstairs, and dinner is in the oven.”

Dan shot one last quick smile before turning on his heel and heading back upstairs, expecting Phil to be close behind. He entered his room, hearing footsteps follow behind him, and shut the door. “Your parents seem nice,” Dan grinned, “You think this will go well?”

“Of course,” Phil nodded, walking up to Dan, “There’s nothing to worry about, munchkin.” He quickly kissed Dan’s lips before dropping his bag onto his bed, pulling out the books he needed. Dan sat down on the floor, taking the book Phil handed him. He sighed before flipping open the page, tracing his fingers across the words.

“Dan! Phil!,” Dan heard his mother yell, “Dinner is ready!” Dan huffed in relief and pulled himself up, reaching out his hand to help Phil. But, being the clumsy boy he was, Phil pulled a bit too hard, causing Dan to fall on top of him. The two burst out into laughter, Phil lightly poking Dan’s nose. “Why hello there, cutie,” he smirked causing Dan to turn red. He giggled before pecking his lips and pushing to the side, getting up on his own.

Dan got up as well and took in a deep breath, feeling rather stressed. “Hey, relax,” Phil whispered, “It’ll be okay. And, if something goes wrong, I’ll be damned for it to stop me.” Dan smiled and nodded  before opening his doors and heading downstairs, Phil following him.

Phil came downstairs to a table full of food putting a big smile on his face. “Oh thank God,” he muttered, “I’m starving.” Dan giggled, being the only one able to hear him, and took a seat. Phil grabbed the seat next to him, putting his hand on his knee and squeezing it reassuringly.

“So, Dan,” Liz smiled as she filled her plate with food, “How did you and Phil meet?” Dan grinned and began to explain as his mother put food on his plate. “Well, Phil came into class late so the only seat available was in front of mine so he sat there,” he reminisced, “And, we had a project that day so we ended up partnering up and now we’re here.”

“Phil’s said a lot about you,” Brian added, “You seem like a great kid, I’m glad Phil met you.” Dan turned a bit pink at the comment and shrugged. “Yeah, me too,” he mumbled, Phil squeezing his knee once again. “Dan has told us a lot about you as well, Phil,” Dan’s mother commented, “I’m glad he actually found someone besides PJ.” Dan groaned, placing his head in his freed hand causing Phil to giggle a bit. “Phil wasn’t really fitting in well either, so it’s great that they met one another,” Liz smiled and all the others nodded in agreement.

“So, have you boys finished your project?” Dan’s father finally spoke up, being too focused on his food to speak earlier. The two nodded, proud smiles on their faces. “What was it about again?”  he asked and Dan sat up taller before explaining. “It was on Greek mythology and all the gods and goddesses,” he informed, “We had to do our project on Aphrodite, the goddess of love.”

“Speaking of love,” Liz spoke up, “Have either of you boys got your eyes on anyone?” Phil glanced over at Dan, not feeling sure about what to say. Dan thought for a second before nodding to himself quickly, getting another squeeze on the knee from Phil. “Well, actually,” Dan started off, pausing a bit before continuing the sentence, “Me and Phil are together.”

“Oh?” all four parents gasped simultaneously as both Dan and Phil slid down into their seats. It got really quiet for several moments as Phil cast his eyes to the floor, trying his hardest to avoid the looks of everyone at the table. Dan felt stares being cast on him, his heart beating uncontrollably fast.

“I didn’t know you were gay, sweetie,” Dan’s mother turned to Dan and he pulled his head up. He shrugged, feeling his forehead get a bit sweaty. “Well, I’m very happy for the two of you,” she whispered and Dan perked up in his seat, a smile being cast onto his lips. “Oh I knew,” Dan’s father added causing Dan to raise an eyebrow, “I just thought you’d end up with PJ.” Both Dan and Phil laughed, shaking their heads.

Phil looked over at his parents, shocked expressions still on their faces. “You’re gay?” Brian asked and Phil shook his head. “Bisexual,” he corrected causing Dan to giggle a bit. “Well, that’s good for you, son,” Brian smiled, “You chose a good one.” Dan blushed at the comment as Phil nudged his shoulder. “Yes,” Liz agreed, “Dan is a very good boy. It all sort of explains why you’ve been talking so much about him.”

Phil let out a loud groan causing everyone at the table to laugh. Dan quickly leaned towards Phil and kissed his cheek, causing the others to coo admirably. Everyone resumed their meals, Dan and Phil’s hands linked underneath the table. For the rest of the evening, the group had casual conversation, getting to know each other and their son’s new boyfriends. And, both Dan and Phil knew that from then on, there was absolutely nothing to worry about.
