A/N:
Welcome! So, this is my newest phanfic based on the movie Hoje Quero Voltar Sozinho (The Way He Looks). You should all check that movie out by the way, it's so adorable. Though, I must warn you, if you see the movie, this whole phic is going to be spoiled for you because this story is pretty much going to be exactly like the movie. Also, idk if any of you noticed but Phil was originally supposed to be the blind one but I have changed it to Dan. And, final thing, this will also be in a different point of view than my other stories. Anyways, that's all, I hope you all enjoy! Here's chapter one of The Way He Looks!

“How lazy are you on a scale of one to ten?” Dan asked. “A four, how about you,” PJ replied second later. “Ten.” And, then it fell silent as Dan fell into his own little world.
Dan laid on his stomach, the cold cement pressing against his bare skin, as he ran his fingers back and forth over the lukewarm water. He listened to the laughter of children and yells of grown ups. He hummed lightly as the sound of water splashing flowed past my ears. Everything was peaceful and he didn’t want anything to change.
But, unfortunately the peace only lasted for about two more minutes before PJ’s groan cut through the air. “Come on, Dan!” he moaned, “We always do this. We always come to this dumb indoor pool, we never do anything!” Dan scoffed, not moving a muscle, “I like not doing anything.”
“Is this really how you want to spend the last week of summer?” PJ asked and Dan shrugged, flicking the water with his fingers. “What exactly do you expect our summers to be like?” he mumbled and waited for an answer. “I don’t know. Excitement, partying, drama,” PJ went on mindlessly, “Romance.”
“You’re never going to get any romance,” Dan answered, “You think all the guys in our school are pigs, there’s no prince that’s going to come in and sweep you off your feet.” It fell silent for a few moments before PJ sighed, “He doesn’t have to be a prince.”
“It’s too late for any of that now anyways,” Dan spoke, “There’s only a few more days and then it’s back to hell.” He pushed himself up and placed his feet into the water, kicking through the blue substance. “Well, we might as well make the most of it,” PJ chirped before Dan heard a splash of water next to him, “Now come on.”
~~
Click, click, click, click, click. Dan’s fingertips ran across the buttons, the small bumps running through as an image in his head. Finding the right letter, he pressed down, causing yet another loud noise to echo through the room. The classroom was silent and all that could be heard was the ticking of Dan’s brailler.
Yet another click went off and two boys from the back of the room groaned. “Come on, Mrs. Devon,” one of them shouted across the room, “You can’t expect us to concentrate with that annoying tapping sound going off the whole day.” Dan slouched down into his seat as the class echoed with murmurs of agreement.
“Shouldn’t he be put into some special room?” another boy cooed and the class erupted in agreement once again. “Now, now,” Mrs. Devon silenced everyone, “Dan is no different than any of you.” One of the boys laughed and clapped his hands. “Of course he is,” he spoke, “All of us have an image in front of us, filled with color and different objects, but all Dan has is darkness.”
“That’s enough!” Mrs. Devon shouted, slamming her hand against her desk, “Michael, go to the office right this instant!” Dan groaned as the name went through his mind. Ever since Dan had started at this school, Michael had always been on his case. Him and his little posse, always mocking him for his disability. Sometimes it really bothered Dan, but he didn’t let them get to him; he couldn’t.
“Aw, that’s a little low, isn’t it, Mrs. Devon?” Michael moaned. “Now or you’ll be getting a call home,” Mrs. Devon spoke with her stern voice. It was quiet for a minute before Michael huffed and the sound of a chair squeaking reached Dan’s ears. Dan listened as the footsteps got closer to his side, clenching his hands tighter as the noise came closer. And, just like he’d expected, when the sound of Michael’s steps came close enough, he felt a heavy object, much like a bag filled with books, slam against his head.
Dan listened to the sound of the door opening then closing before he relaxed again. “Alright class, back to work,” Mrs. Devon announced before the sound of chalk on board started again. Dan stayed still before hearing PJ’s voice state the next line of notes Mrs. Devon had written on the board. And once again, the ticking began.
~~
The bell soon rang signalling dismissal as Dan listened to all the students file out of the room. He remained still before feeling a hand on his shoulder. “You ready?” PJ asked and Dan got up, nodding before hooking his arm around PJ’s.
The two of them exited out the room and pushed passed the school doors. They walked down the familiar path, off the school grounds. Dan could’ve walked to his house alone, having the trail memorized, but PJ was always worrying about him getting into some sort of accident. So, everyday, after class ended, PJ would hook arms with Dan and they’d walk home together in silence.
But today, just as they were about to cross the road, Dan heard Michael’s voice from behind him. “Can’t even walk home alone?” he laughed as PJ sighed. Dan ducked his head down before pulling at PJ’s arm. The two walked off, not saying a word to Michael.
As soon as they reached the house PJ slipped his arm away from Dan’s. “Keys,” PJ spoke but Dan shook his head. “No, I got it,” Dan reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out his keys. He place his hand onto the door and began to trace his fingers down the wooden frame. His fingers soon stopped at the look and he placed the key before turning it, hearing a slight click.
Dan pushed open the door and stepped into the house before turning and feeling PJ wrap him in his arms. “Don’t let them get to you, okay?” PJ whispered and Dan nodded before he heard PJ’s steps going further and further away. He shut the door behind him and sighed before rushing upstairs to his room, mumbling a hi to both his parents.
That night, Dan didn’t sleep. It was partially because he couldn’t but mostly because he didn’t want to. Every time Dan fell asleep, he didn’t dream. And, if he did, all that came up were images of braille writing. Dan couldn’t dream of anything else because he never saw anything else. So instead, Dan just laid there, flat on his back, waiting for his alarm to ring for the next day.

I hoped you guys liked the first chapter. I don’t really know how to feel about it and the whole story in general but I’ll see how it goes. Let me know what you guys think as well because if you all like it, I won’t even consider deleting it. Sorry for taking so long to upload this chapter but like I said, high school is a lot of work and I just won’t have as much time as I used to. Anyways, please leave feedback and thank you for reading!
