By nighttime, it started pouring. Sarah and Remy laid quietly as they listened to the sound of the rain. They closed their eyes as the rain relaxed the both of them. Remy loved the rain. She had always found peace and comfort from it. She could tell Sarah was just as relaxed as she was, so she smiled and took a deep breath. Then she looked around their little shelter. It was cramped, but she was happy and content that the dirt and the banana leaves they put on the roof were keeping the inside of the shelter dry. "Gano kaya katagal tong ulan?" Sarah asked. "Not entirely sure, ate. But even in this deserted island, I appreciate the rain. I've always loved it. Mas energetic pa nga ako kapag ganito yung weather eh. We barely have any rain. Kaya pag umuulan dun, tuwang tuwa ako eh. Nabubuhayan talaga ako," Remy said. Sarah took a deep breath, "Ganun naman ata talaga, Remy eh. Naappreciate lang natin pag wala na," she said. Remy looked at her. "Hugot, ate?" She joked. "Totoo naman diba? Katulad nyang ulan, sa Pinas marami naiinis sa ulan kasi palaging andyan, kaya lagi may baha. Yearly, lagi yan bumabalik, nagpapakita. Mas naaapreciate nyo pag andyan sya," Sarah explained. "Lalim mo ngayon ate ah," Remy noticed. Sarah turned her head towards her. "Naisip ko lang pamilya mo, Remy. Yung boyfriend mo," Sarah said. "Ex," Remy corrected. "Ex," Sarah corrected herself. "Ano naman naisip mo sa kanila, ate?" Remy asked curiously. "Sabi mo kasi nung nandun ka, di makatingin daddy mo sayo, yung mommy mo naman laging galit sayo at yung kapatid mo namang isa iniiwasan ka. Tapos dumagdag pa yung ex mo na bumitaw sayo after what? Eight years?" Sarah said. "Mhm?" Remy answered. Sarah asked. Remy looked towards the fire and broke little sticks and tossed them in it. "Happy siguro," Remy said. Her chest started to hurt, but she stopped herself from crying. "Pano mo nasabi?" Sarah asked. She gently placed her hand on Remy's back. Remy didn't mind the pain. She appreciated Sarah's gesture. She appreciated her presence. "Umm, kasi before I I came here, my ex's last words to me were: 'You know, I'm at a point where I can't even stand your love, your affection. I can't even stand seeing your face to be honest.' Memorized ko na nga eh kasi paulit ulit yan sa utak ko ever since he said it. Get them or I'll throw every single one of your stuff in the trash!' She said that over the phone after she threw all of my stuff in the yard pagkatapos nyako palayasin," Remy said. She looked down by her feet. "Sinabi nila yun?" Sarah said in disbelief. "Ganda ng despedida nila sakin noh?" Remy joked. Sarah sighed. She lifted half her body and used her elbow for support. Then she gave Remy a hug by placing her cheek on Remy's arm while her arms wrapped around Remy's waist. Remy smiled a little. She lifted her arm and placed it around Sarah who gently placed her head by Remy's waist. "Worth it naman," Remy said. "Worth it ang alin?" Sarah asked. "Ma-break up-an at mapalayas," Remy answered. Sarah frowned. "Bakit naman?" Sarah asked again. "Kasi after nun, makakasama pala kita dito sa island na toh," Remy said. "Alam mo," Sarah said as she bit her lip and held her sides as she got up. "No ate, sabi mo nga diba? All of these were already planned. Everything was made to happen that way for this to happen," Remy explained. Remy couldn't help but shriek a little. Sarah laughed again. "Basta Remy, mahal kita. Wag mo yun kakalimutan ah. Andito lang ako para sayo," Sarah reassured her. Remy looked her in the eyes. "Sana di lang yan island talk ate ha," Remy made sure. "Hala sya, hindi ako ganun," Sarah argued. "You're so busy kaya! Baka nga sa sobrang busy mo, you won't know who I am anymore eh," Remy teased. Remy laughed. "What did I do?!" She asked. Remy smiled. Then she sighed. Sarah watched as Remy took a drink. She passed the jar to Sarah who also took a few gulps. "Thank you," she said as she cleared her throat while she wiped her mouth. "Bakit ako ba makakalimutan mo agad agad?" Sarah asked. Remy shook her head. "Ikaw? I've loved you since Sarah the Teen Princess, 'wag kang ano dyan ate," Remy said. "So porket mas matagal mo nakong kilala ibig sabihin mabilis nako makalimot?" Sarah asked. Remy shrugged. "I don't know," she answered. "Well, I know fore sure I won't forget you because I'm going to go back to fangirling the moment we're back in civilization. I'll follow you wherever you go," Remy said. Her eyebrows bobbed up and down. "Ganun? Remy's eyes lit up. "Talaga? Ano ba kasi meron sayo?" Remy wondered. Sarah took a deep breath. "Nyek, toh ano ano sinasabi eh. Matulog ka na nga," Sarah said. She tried to find a comfortable position, then she faced Remy who laid on her side to face her, too. "Ate," Remy said. "Hm?" Sarah responded. "Aasahan ko yan ha," Remy said again. "Alin?" Sarah asked. "Na we'll keep in touch," Remy answered. "Ano ka ba? Oo naman. Sakin ka na nga diba?" Sarah said seriously. Remy smiled. "Oo, noon pa lang sayong sayo nako," she said to her. Then the two of them said their good night's and drifted off to sleep.
