Chapter 15

"Hala, Remy. Nag-dudugo yung ilong mo," Sarah said in terror. Then she looked around for something she could use to wipe the blood off of Remy's face, but Remy used her shirt instead. "Remy," Sarah said worriedly. "Bakit ganyan? Bakit nag-dudugo yan? Ano nangyayari?" She asked, trying not to sound too hysterical. "Ate, I'm fine. Sa pagod lang talaga siguro toh. Medyo mainit din kasi eh," Remy tried to reason. She took a deep breath. Sarah could see her getting weaker by the minute. "Remy, di pwede toh. Di pwedeng may lumalabas nanamang dugo sayo. Kanina ka pa maputla tapos may nagdudugo nanaman sayo? Natatakot na talaga ako, Remy eh. Ayokong mag-isa dito sa islang toh. Ayoko maiwan dito," Sarah cried. She helped Remy with the cloth that was on her nose though she didn't really know exactly what to do to help her. "Ate, umiiyak ka nanaman. Pinagluluksaan mo nako eh buhay pako. Please, 'wag ka na umiyak. I'm fine. Trust me, okay?" Remy said, but Sarah couldn't take her seriously while she watched her bleeding. Sarah's heart was pounding that her head started hurting. She looked at Remy frantically. "Remy, huminto na ba?" She asked, her whole body was restless. Remy shook her head, her hands were shaking from the blood loss. Sarah swallowed as she looked at her. "Hindi ko sure, ate, but I'm fine, okay? Don't worry," Remy tried to reassure her, but Sarah was not convinced. The softness in Remy's voice made her feel even more paranoid. "Yung boses mo kasi eh," she said. She couldn't help but cry silently. "Anong meron sa boses ko, ate?" Remy asked. She tried to open her eyes so she could look at her. "Parang aalis ka na," Sarah said quietly while she cried. "Ate, didn't I make a promise na hindi kita iiwan mag-isa dito? Come on, don't forget that. I'm still here, I'll be okay," Remy said. Then she reached for Sarah's hand to comfort her. "Distract yourself, ako na bahala dito. Hihinto na din toh soon. I just need to take it easy and rest. Try to find something to do para hindi ka masyado mag-isip. I'll be fine, ate. I promise you," she said to her. Sarah swallowed as she looked at Remy worriedly. "Love you, Remy. Dito ka lang ha, kukuha ako ng tubig sa stream, okay?" She said then she stood up. "Love you too, ate," Remy said before she took a deep breath and closed her eyes again. Sarah looked at Remy one last time before she headed to the stream. Her heart was beating so fast, it affected her vision. She didn't know what she'll do without Remy. Sarah made her way through the forest as quickly as she could despite her own pain and injuries. She grabbed some water from the stream, put some firewood onto their forest campfires to keep them going, then she hurried back to the shore. As she made her way back towards Remy, she noticed that the water from the stream was extra cold that day, which is exactly what they needed, so she thanked the Lord for it. She knew Remy needed her, so she walked quicker than usual despite her pain. She was about to reach the shore when she noticed something shiny on the ground. She looked at it closely and bent her body slowly to check what it was. It was a cross necklace. Sarah bent down and looked around. It wasn't hers, so she figured it must be Remy's or so she hoped it was Remy's. She picked it up quickly and continued on her way.

When she reached the shore, Remy was already inside the shelter laying on the bed of leaves she made for her. Remy looked even paler than when she had left her. Sarah noticed she had already changed her clothes, her old clothes were used for her nose. "Remy," Sarah called out to her as she knelt beside her. "Andito nako, okay ka lang? Huminto na ba?" Sarah asked worriedly. She held onto Remy's forehead. She was pleased to know that she didn't have any fever. Remy shook her head in response. "Ha? Nagdudugo pa din? Remy halos twenty minutes yata akong wala dito ah, bakit hindi pa rin yan humihinto? Diba dapat by now huminto na yan?" Sarah asked, then she swallowed again. "Okay lang, ate" Remy tried to reassure her again. Her voice lessened in volume. Sarah started crying again. She used a clean shirt and wet it with the water from the stream. Then she placed it gently on Remy's forehead. "Ano pwede ko gawin, Remy? Pano kita matutulongan? Kahit ano, please, sabihin mo lang. Gusto kita tulongan" Sarah asked. She was almost begging her. Remy shook her head. She could barely open her eyes. "Hindi na talaga maganda ang kalagayan mo, Remy eh. Kelangan na natin makaalis dito. Kelangan na kitang madala sa doctor. Kelangan matingnan ka na nila, baka kelangan mo ng surgery o ano ba dyan, basta kelangan mo madala na sa hospital kaya kelangan na natin ma-rescue. Kelangan mahanap na nila tayo," Sarah pointed out, but Remy shook her head again. "I'm tired, ate," Remy said quietly. Sarah thought her breathing was shallow which scared her even more. She held Remy's face with one hand and her shoulder with the other. "Oo, alam ko naman yun eh. Ha Remy? Alam ko yun. Pagod na pagod ka na, kitang kita ko yun. Kitang kita ko na pahina ng pahina yung katawan mo. Pero please naman oh, pagod na din ako. Pagod na pagod. Alam ko in pain ka din, parehas din tayong in pain. Pero diba walang susuko?" Sarah whined while she cried. Remy took a deep breath, she was was falling asleep. Sarah could tell because the shirt that she was holding up by her nose to stop the bleeding was falling to the side. Sarah took hold of it, she lifted the shirt to see how much blood was still coming out from Remy's nose. Sarah cried even more when she saw the amount of blood that came out and was still coming out. "Ang dami ng lumabas Remy tapos may lumalabas pa din," Sarah said nervously. She was sobbing now. "Mhm, marami pa namang natira sakin eh kaya 'wag ka mag-alala," Remy said. "Ano ka ba, 'wag ka na mag-joke dyan," Sarah complained. She held the cloth up on Remy's nose. "Hindi naman ako nagju-joke ate eh," Remy replied. Her eyes were closed the entire time. Sarah stared at her worriedly. Then she brushed Remy's cheeks gently with her knuckles. "Remy, buksan mo muna yung mga mata mo," Sarah instructed. Then she grabbed something from the pocket of her jeans. Remy obediently opened her eyes. She looked at Sarah in the eyes. "Tingnan mo oh, nahanap ko sa may bukana ng forest. Sayo ba toh?" Sarah asked. Remy looked at the necklace Sarah was holding in front of her. Remy smiled and nodded. "My good 'ol cross necklace," she said. Sarah smiled. "See, sinasabi ni Lord kumapit ka pa kasi andyan lang Sya," Sarah said, trying to encourage her to fight even more. Then she lifted Remy's head a little and she put the necklace around her neck. "I must have it on nung bago pa tayo dito sa isla, tapos siguro nalaglag when we were roaming around the forest. May parang S yan sa cross oh, kita mo? Tamang tama kasi idol kita, S for Sarah," Remy pointed out. Sarah looked at the necklace and saw what Remy was talking about. Then she smiled. "Siguro nga, pero hindi sira eh oh. Okay pa sya. Pano kaya nalaglag?" Sarah pointed out. Remy smiled. "I've had this since I was a kid. I never took it off," she said. Sarah nodded. "Sinasabi kasi ng Diyos sayo na nawala man yung necklace na yan sayo, hindi Sya ever nawala sa tabi mo. Kaya lumaban ka, okay? Lalaban tayo pareho ha? Hindi ka aalis. Hindi kita papayagan umalis. Mag-kasama tayong dalawa dito. Mag-kasama na tayong napadpad dito, kaya mag-kasama tayong ma-rerescue paalis dito. Hindi natin hahayaan umalis at maiwanan ang isa't isa. Sabi mo diba mag-giguest ka pa sa concert ko? Mag-duduet pa tayo diba?" Sarah tried to remind her. Remy smiled, but she shook her head. "It's too good to be true, ate," she said, her voice kept getting softer, and she seemed to be growing weaker. Sarah held her hand and shook it a little "Remy, there's no such thing as 'too good to be true'. Good things happen because He exists. Good things happen kasi gusto nya iparamdam satin kung gano Sya kabuti. Kaya kung iniisip mo pa din na panaginip lang toh, Remy, hindi toh panaginip lang. Accept it, Remy. Embrace it. Eto ako. Yung iniidolo mo, kasama mo sa islang toh. At mahal ka nya. Mahal na mahal kahit na isang linggo lang kayo nagka-kilala. At ayan ka. Si Remy, you exist din sa buhay ko. You exist sa buhay ng isang Sarah Geronimo. Si Remy na naging matalik kong kaibigan dahil sa lahat lahat ng pinagdaanan namin dito sa isla na toh. Si Remy na maraming magaganda at mabubuting pinaramdam sakin sa isang linggo na nakama kita. Si Remy na nahihirapan sa self-love pero sobra sobra kung mag-mahal. Si Remy na minahal ako, sinuportahan ako, at hindi sumuko sakin buong career ko. Kaya kahit ngayon lang tayo nagka-kilala, Remy, hayaan mo na ako naman ang hindi susuko sayo. Dahil hindi ka lang si Remy sa panaginip ni Sarah. Ikaw si Remy at andito ka ngayon kasama ko. Ikaw yung Remy na nagpatawa sakin ng sobra sobra. Ikaw yung Remy na gagawin ang lahat para saming lahat na mahal nya. Alam ko din yun dahil yun ang ginagawa mo para sakin sa araw araw na mag-kasama tayo dito sa isla. Hindi ka lang nasa panaginip ko. Totoo ka. At nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos dahil pinagtagpo Nya tayong dalawa, na sa dinami dami ng taong pwede kong makasama, ikaw ang binigay Nya para makasama ko dito sa isla.  Andito ka. Andito ka talaga, dahil hindi ka 'too good to be true' lang. Kasi oo, you're too good, Remy. Too good. Pero you're true. You're here. Andito ka. At gagawin natin pareho ang lahat lahat para hindi ka aalis, ha Remy? Kung pinaramdam sayo ng pamilya mo na wala lang sa kanila na mawala ka, na hindi ka importante, na wala ka lang sa kanila, na disappointed sila sayo, Remy, sakin importante ka. Remy ako gusto ko na andito ka. Ako gusto ko nandito ka lang. Maniwala ka. I want to keep you alive, Remy. Sabi mo sana hindi pa huli ang lahat? Hindi pa, Remy. Kaya hindi kita pagdadamot sa iba, pero kung okay lang sayo, sana I can keep your presence in my life kahit na na-rescue na tayo. Sana bisitahin mo pa din ako. Yung madalas ha. Araw arawin mo na pag di ka busy. Sana paminsan minsan, mag-bakasyon din tayo sa mga island na ganito pero yung hindi na tayo yung magpapakahirap mag-hanap ng kakainin at iinomin natin. Yung wala na tayo parehong injuries at pain. Yung pareho tayo mag-eenjoy na lang. Yung tayong dalawa lang ulit para ma-solo natin isa't isa ulit. Kasi alam mo sa totoo lang, Remy, iniisip ko pa lang na magkaka-hiwalay tayo after natin ma-rescue, sakit na sa puso eh. Namimiss na kita kaagad kahit na kasama pa din naman kita. Parang sobra mong kini-crave na ma-solo ako, Remy, pero ako, ganun na din ako sayo ngayon. Parang gusto kita ipag-damot. Parang ayaw kita ibalik sa pamilya mo. Parang ayaw kita ipakilala sa iba. Parang halos ayaw ko na ma-rescue tayo sa totoo lang eh kung hindi lang dahil sa injuries mo eh. Isang linggo at isang araw pa lang tayo dito pero feeling ko matagal na tayong magkakilala, parang noon pa lang matalik na kitang kaibigan. Parang alam na alam ko na ang lahat tungkol sayo at ganun ka din sakin. Hindi naging mahirap mapalapit sayo, Remy. Kahit sino madaling mag-mahal sayo. Kaya utang na loob, Remy. Dagdagan pa natin yung oras na magkasama tayo. Dagdagan mo pa yung mga taong mabibless mo. Labanan mo lahat ng toh. Kasi Remy ang sakit sakit na isipin na parang malapit na yung huli. Parang malapit mo ng sabihin sakin na 'hanggang dito na lang ako, hanggang dito na lang tayo'," Sarah said. Those were the words she feared the most now. Then she sobbed.
