Chapter 22

Sarah tiptoed her way into the hallway of the hospital. When she was about to turn into a corner, she came face to face with a nurse. "Ms. Sarah," the nurse said, surprised to see her in the hallway. "Please," Sarah said, then she immediately started crying. "Ms. Sarah, san po kayo pupunta? Ano pong ginawa nyo sa braso nyo?" The nurse asked worriedly. "Kelangan ko hanapin yung kaibigan ko, si Remy. Please 'wag ka naman mag-sumbong sa kanila oh. Kelangan ko lumabas. Kelangan ko umalis ng hospital. Kelangan ko mag-coordinate sa mga coast guard para balikan yung isla. Ako lang kasi nakakaalam kung nasan yung kaibigan ko eh. Kung hindi ko sila tutulungan, mamamatay sya. Mas matindi pa yung mga injuries nun kesa sakin, tapos may cancer pa sya. Please tulungan mo naman akong maka-takas oh," Sarah pleaded. The nurse put her hand in front of her as she stepped closer towards Sarah, afraid that one wrong move might send her running the other way. "Ms. Sarah, pasensya na po kayo. Hindi ko po pwedeng gawin yun. Marami po akong malalabag na rules ng hospital, baka po matanggal ako sa trabaho. At lalo naman pong baka po ano pa ang mangyari sa inyo kung hahayaan ko po kayong umalis at tumakas ng hospital," the nurse replied, trying to be as calm and gentle as possible to not scare Sarah of. She knew Sarah's condition. She heard it from the doctor that Sarah could possibly be suffering from hallucinations due to a traumatic brain injury, so she felt extremely sorry for her. "Nurse, kelangan kasi eh. Kung ikaw may kaibigan kang naiwan sa isla na alam mo kelangan syang ma-rescue, hindi ba ito din ang gagawin mo? Hindi ba tatakas ka rin ng hospital para hanapin sya? Hindi ba gagawin mo rin kung ano yung kelangan mong gawin para ma-salba mo rin yung buhay nya?" Sarah asked. Her face was wet with tears. "Ms. Sarah, naiintindihan ko po kayo. Hayaan nyo na po ang coast guard ang maghanap sa kanya. Mahahanap rin po nila sya. Kayo po, may obligasyon po kayo sa pamilya nyo na magpagaling. Obligasyon nyo rin po sa fans nyo na gawin ang lahat para mabalik ka sa malusog na pangangatawan para po makabalik na kayo sa entablado," the nursed pleaded with her. "Hindi, hindi. Maiintindihan ako ng pamilya ko, nurse. Maiintindihan rin ako ng mga fans kung pipiliin ko na i-save ang isang taong naging importanteng parte na rin ng buhay ko. Hindi lang sya kaibigan para sakin, nurse. Kapamilya ko na rin si Remy. Kung wala sya, kung hindi nya ako inalagaan sa isla, malamang wala nako dito ngayon. Mali na naiwan sya doon mag-isa. Wala pa yung kain. Di nya kayang tumayo para pakainin yung sarili nya. Di rin sya makainom ng hindi ko tinutulungan. Kaya nurse, pwede hayaan mo na lang ako na umalis na ngayon ng hospital. Kelangan na kelangan na nya ako. Kelangan na kelangan ako ni Remy," Sarah said. She was crying the whole time she was explaining. Then the nurse slowly approached her. "Ms. Sarah, gabi na rin po. Ipagpa-umaga na lang po natin yung mga kelangan nyo gawin ngayon. Wala rin pong coast guard kang mahahagilap ngayon. Bukas na lang po, please," the nurse said. Sarah shook her head aggressively. Then she turned to the other side and started hurrying towards the hall. The nurse screamed for help as she followed her. Another nurse came from a room Sarah was about to enter. The nurse held on to her. "We have to sedate her," he ordered the other nurse which made her run to get the medicine to put Sarah to sleep. "Please, tulungan nyoko hanapin si Remy! Tulungan nyokong makalabas dito!" Sarah begged. The nurse held on to her as tightly as he could. "Ms. Sarah, calm down po. Ma-aaggravate po yung mga injuries ninyo lalo," he begged her. Then the other nurse came back with the supplies. She along with a third nurse helped steady Sarah on the ground. Matteo immediately ran towards them. "Love, love!" He said. "What are you guys doing to her??" He asked as he knelt beside his girlfriend. "Sorry po, sir. She was trying to escape," the nurse informed him. "But did you guys really have to pin her down like that? You could hurt her!" Matteo couldn't help but yell at them. "Sorry, sir. We had to do what we had to do to stop her from hurting herself," the other nurse said. Matteo took a deep breath. He held on to Sarah as the nurses carried her onto a stretcher. "Matt?" Sarah's parents said at the same time. Then they frowned as they saw Sarah's unconscious body being wheeled back to her room. "She tried to escape," Matteo told them. "Ha?" Sarah's parents said at the same time. "Sarah, anak," mommy Divine said as they carried her back to her hospital bed. Matteo shook his head. "They had to sedate her again. She was going to harm herself if they didn't," he said as he stared worriedly at his girlfriend. Mommy Divine started crying again. Daddy Delfin and Matteo both tightened their jaws. When Sarah was hooked back to the machines, Matteo and Sarah's parents stared at her, none of them knew what to do or what to expect next. "Sorry po nakatulog ako," Matteo said. Daddy Delfin shook his head. "Kami rin naman," he said. "Kelangan po natin sya bantayan ng mas ma-igi. She's going to keep trying to leave the hospital to find this Remy person," Matteo told them. Sarah's parents nodded. "Kelangan siguro natin sya ipakausap sa isang psychologist or psychiatrist," Daddy Delfin said. Mommy Divine and Matteo both nodded. "Baka sila ang makakapag-explain sa kanya ng maayos kung ano yung naging condition nya pagkatapos ng nangyari sa kanya sa isla. Baka mas maintindihan nya kapag nanggaling mismo sa kanila kesa yung tayo ang magpapaliwanag sa kanya," Daddy Delfin said again and the two nodded in response. Then the three of them sat quietly, staring at Sarah and feeling sorry for her for everything that she's going through.
