Chapter 33: The Done Table
After a few days of rest, I've been focusing on Metropolis Blue. The dream from before didn't escape my mind.
'But I do think it's time for you to come home, Mary Alice,' Mom's word's repeated in my head, 'your daddy's going to need you.'
Did something happen?
I've been thinking long and hard and I still can't remember the future fully, but I think it was time for me to return to the future soon. So it was best to get my little ducks in a row. I had to finish this stuff with Metropolis Blue and once Jaime's out of the Reach's control, I will go home.
In these few days that I have managed to befriend the girls that liked to hang out in my room, I learned they were the popular crew. I really did get lucky. Because I was on their good side, everyone was friendly towards me.
"Yo, study group after Chem?" Andrea asked Yolanda. Yolanda turned to look at me.
"Hey, El, you up for it?" she asked me.
"Yeah," I replied.
"I'll let Serena know," Andrea replied. The days were quiet and no one seemed interested in talking about the Round Table. If I brought it up, they'd pretend I didn't say anything or change the subject. It was when Yolanda was in my room just chilling as she blasted music from her stereo as she danced around the room that I finally managed to get something out of her.
"You are so lucky!" She shouted as she danced, "you are so far from the others that you don't even have to worry about noise complaints. The hall monitor barely even comes over here."
"Yeah, well that doesn't mean I can't get hearing damage!" I retorted covering my ears. She laughed as she went over and turned down the music to a decent level. Tails watched us from on top of the dresser. He knew not to come down till we were alone.
"So, Yo, be frank with me," I replied as she threw herself on my bed, "why is it like taboo to talk about the Round Table?"
"Why do you insist on bringing them up?" She frowned as she leaned on her elbows. "If they find out you're talking about them, they'll target you."
"So it is real?" I replied.
"Well, everyone suspects, but no one knows," she replied, "I mean we see a lot of scholarship students blame their misfortune on the Round Table, but we never actually see them do things to them."
"So no one knows anything about it," I frowned. So how do I get close...?
"No, so stop bringing them up or you'll get yourself into trouble," she replied poking my forehead, "especially now that it's been quiet since...Cassandra Evans."
"Cassandra Evans?" I questioned. Yo squirmed uncomfortably as she moved up to sit closer to me as she began to whisper like if there were others inside the room that could hear.
"It was the Parent/teacher conference for us," Yo said, "Cassandra went with this gun and held everyone at gunpoint demanding the Round Table come out. If Blue Bird didn't show, I don't know how that day would have ended. There was only one parent injured by a misfire."
"And you think she scared them down or what?" I replied.
"No," she frowned, "an organization built on pride won't step down easily especially if Cassie wounded their ego. She even started a movement. I heard a rumor about a group of scholarship kids who were motivated by Cassie's action and plan on discovering and taking down the Round Table."
