Chapter 34: Getting Our Blue Back
June 13, 2016
Alice's P.O.V.
I was back in Metropolis, which has only been a day or two since I left considering I just recently finished with the undercover mission in Metropolis Blue. We did different rounds everywhere since a lot of the League being off-world meant we had to pick up some of the slack. We were going to help with the Toyman situation, but it seemed Blue Beetle had beat us to it. Although, his method didn't seem very safe for the civilians around. I used Mystic's energy in the Gem to control the air and hold the giant robot limbs just long enough for the civilians to move. Don't ask me how, but I still had Mystic's energy. We were crouched beneath the sign on top of the roof as we watched Blue Beetle hand over Toyman to the officers.
"Here you go, officers," he told them as he dropped Toyman on the ground in front of them. "Time to put the Toyman back on the shelf."
"No fair, no fair, no fair!" The Toyman complained as the officers grabbed a hold of him and the crowd cheered Blue Beetle on. I watched the news reporter run up to him.
"Blue Beetle! Blue Beetle! A moment?" Cat Grant asked as her camera man followed her.
"With the famed Cat Grant?" Blue Beetle said bowing, "I'm at your service. Heck, I'm at everyone's service!"
"Why is he still bowing?" I asked, "did he mess up his back during the fight?"
"That's just how I roll," Blue Beetle said finally standing up straight and waving.
"Nope, his back's fine," Bat Girl replied.
"So you've begun handling situations that once upon a Time were a job for Superman," Cat stated.
"Hey, if the Justice League's too busy, I'm happy to pick up the slack!" Blue Beetle smiled as he continued to wave.
"He keeps that Princess wave up, Disney's going to recruit him as one of their princesses," I replied.
"I think I'd prefer him working for Disney than the Reach, honestly," Impulse replied.
"I am so honored by your kind attentions," Blue Beetle said, "and so honored to be your hero." The crowd cheered even more as he put his hands on his hips.
"Who even talks like that?" I groaned as I kicked myself even more at not realizing what had happened to Jaime sooner.
"Uh, as your profile expands, do you worry about increased scrutiny?" Cat asked.
"Nah, I welcome it!" Blue Beetle said, "let'em watch!"
I frowned. Bat Girl looked at Impulse and me and motioned us to go. We nodded as we left. Although, I felt sick turning my back and leaving a friend who was being held hostage in his own body. Especially considering...I knew the kind of hell that was.
Alejandra's P.O.V.
That day still hasn't left my mind. I sat behind my desk looking at the gem around my neck. It scared me. I still had no idea why it disappeared from me for a few moments. What if next time it never comes back?
"It's just not possible," Aetius replied, "no one can call the Heart from its bearer."
"But I'm telling you something did," I frowned. "It was literally gone for at least five minutes."
