The heavy rain wailed down upon a ship in an attempt to throw the passengers out of their comfort zone.

"Why the fuck is it raining so hard?!" you exclaimed through the wind, your voice being carried away in less than a few seconds.

The other passengers could be heard groaning through the boards of the wooden deck, as many of them were sick as a result of the horrendous waves underneath. You figured you could wait out the storm and made your way to a cabin full of hammocks near the back of the boat. To your surprise, a young boy ran past you with a glass of water. He seemed perfectly fine, despite the crowd of nauseated passengers and the swaying of the ship as it navigated the large body of water. You looked at your surroundings and spotted two other boys, one who appeared to be mindlessly reading while he sat in a vacant hammock, and the other who sat eating a sour apple and staring uncomfortably at the wall in front of him.

"Excuse me miss, are you here to get to the Hunter Exam as well?"

You turned to see the young boy wearing all green, with his hair sticking up as if he had been struck by lightning. He gazed up at you curiously and smiled.

"Oh, um... Yeah, I'm here for the Hunter Exam," you replied hesitantly as you smiled back.

"That's so cool! I'm Gon, who are you?" he questioned.

"My name is Y/N. Y/N L/N," you spoke, "it's nice to meet you."

Gon smiled up at you before returning to his work helping the other passengers. You felt a sense of happiness meeting a new person, as you hadn't interacted with many people in your past. Making your way to an empty hammock, you lied down and settled in quickly, preparing to take a nap for the rest of this bothersome trip.

"You three boys. Come with me," a man spoke, "Oh, and the girl as well."

You peeked an eye open only to see Gon and the two boys from earlier staring at you, the man who you assumed was the Captain standing behind them. You hopped up from your spot and followed them along to the Captain's quarters and lined up in a row in front of the Captain, waiting for him to speak.

"Alright then. Tell me your names," he spoke, pulling a pipe from his pocket and beginning to smoke.

"I'm Gon!"

"My name is Kurapika," the blond boy spoke, a sense of irritation in his eyes.

"I'm Leorio." the man wearing the suit spoke up.

"The name is Y/N," you said, a sense of shyness in your voice.

"Alright then. Why do you four want to become Hunters?" the Captain inquired.

After a long conversation about why each of us wanted to take the Hunter Exam, it was revealed that the Captain used the journey on his ship to help the Hunter Association filter out an unnecessary amount of contestants. Kurapika and Leorio had gotten into an argument about formalities and moved out onto the deck, prepared to fight in combat rather than continue with words. In the end, they ended up not fighting after a member of the crew nearly fell off the ship and Gon jumped overboard to catch him, leaving Kurapika and Leorio to save the two from tumbling into the raging waters.

The four of you waited a small bit longer on the ship before arriving at the designated port. The Captain pulled Gon aside and gave him some advice from what you could tell. You walked to the nearest map and started observing the different markings, attempting to figure out what your plan of action should be. Leorio and Kurapika appeared next to you shortly.

"Y/N, are you going to accompany us?" Kurapika asked you quietly.

"I'm honestly not sure quite yet," you replied with a sad smile.

Gon came running up to the three of you and excitedly explained how the Captain had told him to head to a large cedar tree at the top of a nearby mountain. He looked at the map as well to see how to get there before turning to Kurapika and Leorio and casually striking up a conversation.

Gon looked up at you, "I think we're ready to go. Are you coming with?"

You looked at the ground for one silent moment before looking back at him and replying, "No. I think this is something I need to do on my own."

Gon's face faded a bit before he looked at his other companions and smiled back at you with a new look of hope and determination.

"We hope to see you at the Exam Site, Y/N-chan!" he spoke loudly.

And with that, Kurapika, Leorio, and Gon turned and slowly started to drift farther and farther away from your location.

"Alright, Y/N... Let's do this," you whispered to yourself and placed one foot forward, ready to start the new journey ahead.

A/N~

Thank you so much for reading!

I'm sorry if this chapter seems a bit short, but I needed a good place to separate chapters.

I don't have an updating schedule yet, but I'll make an announcement when I do!
