Chapter 1 : The Devil Strikes

Gauri was in no mood to talk to anyone. Everyone was freaking annoying. Her sister had got engaged to her long time boyfriend Shivaay. Oh she hated that man. She hated the entire family. The Oberois.

Gauri had worked for the Oberois before. That's how it all began. She was Pinky Singh Oberoi's personal assistant. Her husband Shakti father of Shivaay was a man of low morals. He had his mistress living in his farmhouse where he spent most of his time. If one wanted to wreck your life in the most dramatic way she'd be the one that a person must piss. Having the power drawn from her son's money, Pinky had filthy ways. Shivaay was the son of these two. What else could be expected?

Shivaay had an history of being a drug addict. Gauri was also aware that he had been living in with his last girlfriend who had dumped him. She wondered why? Was he abusive or something? She feared for the sake of her sister.

Then there was that devil in disguise of man. A man with blazing dark eyes. One look from him could kill. Gauri feared him the most. Omkara.

Omkara Singh Oberoi.

Shivaay's first cousin and a billionaire. His mother was no where less.Jaanvi was a wasted woman by the afternoons by the amount of alcohol she consumed. Gauri had heard a lot of rumors of his father, Jaanvis husband, Tej Singh Oberoi. The most unsettling one being, he had given up on his family owing to their ways. Gauri couldn't say with conformity.

In short, the Oberoi family was messed up.

It had taken her a month to realise the true colors of the Oberoi family. She had signed an NDA – Nondisclosure Agreement and Work Bond with the Oberois particularly Pinky. She couldn't let a single inside detail slip out to the world through her. To the outside world the Oberois were a perfect family and classic example of nice people. All false. The truth lay as ugly as it was, behind the walls of the Oberoi Mansion. As soon as a year had expired, she had resigned and expressed her decision to get a job which did more justice to her degree. Of course the real reason was getting away from the shadows of the Oberois.

Gauri sort of felt guilty. It was during her work period that on one of the days she had asked her sister Anika to get her a file. She had forgotten the file and it was utmost necessary to get it while she was at something else. That day Anika had first met Shivaay. Almost ten months back. Gauri had no clue her sister had taken to immediate liking of the blue-eyed Oberoi. What she didn't know that the hotel Shivaay ran was the same place where her sister worked. Very later she had known that the two had actually got along well and wanted to take things further, to a marriage.

Gauri warned Anika, at the first instance. But Anika brushed it off saying that Shivaay had gone through a lot that no one understood. Soon Gauri realised that making Anika understand anything, if it was against Shivaay, was a bad idea. She tried nevertheless. That only turned things sour between the sisters.

"You are bloody jealous that a nice guy like Shivaay loves me. Your mother's blood has to show somewhere. Your mom was always jealous of my mom. So much that even after my dad's death she wanted what my mom had...my dad! You took a part of my dad away from me. Now you want to take this happier away."

A tear trickled down Gauri's cheeks as she remembered those words Anika had spat at her. True that they were step sisters. But Gauri had never treated Anika as one. She had treated Anika as her own sister. She knew Anika was insecure.

Gauri's biological father was in the army and had died when she was barely three. Anika's father, her mother and Gauri's mother had been friends in college. Gauri knew not much about what her mom felt for Anika's parents. A little more than a year after her father's death, came the news of Anika's mother's demise. That paved the path for the marriage of Anika's father and Gauri's mother.
