Chapter 8 : The Confused Lawyer

It seemed as though only yesterday Rudra had called her. But it was already Saturday. Gauri was excited. It was his birthday but there was barely anything that was different than a normal day. In fact, Gauri was almost sure that she was more excited for his birthday than him. Gauri had to somehow make Omkara leave the the office before seven. That was easy given that her mind worked evil good at such occasions. She had informed Omkara that he had a meeting with Mr.Mittal. Except that it wasn't true at all. On the way to the hotel which was in the vicinity of Oberoi mansion, Gauri had pretended to check her diary. Then began her drama.

"Uhh, Omkara, ahh, "

"What?" Omkara looked up from the file as he sat on the backseat of his car with Gauri looking at him nervously.

"I messed it up. The meeting is on Monday." She spoke feigning nervousness.

"Oh! It's okay" He looked at her with an expression that literally meant he wasn't upset. Gauri breathed relief. Omkara never liked it if his schedule was messed up. She had done it once before, by mistake, when she had first started working. At that time he had let it go with a little scolding as it was her first time. However Omkara had still appeared adoring to her even when he scolded. Well thanks to her stupid heart which was always on his side.

"I am sorry." Gauri feigned a sorry look. Inside she was marvelled. He said it was okay.

"Alright then. Umm, you can perhaps go home early amd spend time with your family. Its a Saturday anyway "

Omkara sighed shutting the file in his hand. He gave the driver instructions to drive to Gauri's home.

Gauri immediately protested against the idea. "Omkara my home will take more than thirty minutes from here. Why don't you just drop me here and head home? You're so close to your place. I will manage. " Yeah, your sister in law and brother have planned to help me snoop in after you enter.

"Gauri, ni.."

"I anyway have to meet someone." She blurted cutting him off.

"Oh. Umm, okay. " he said weirdly. "Who?" Omkara asked as his curiosity ruled.

"Someone." Gauri replied rather stupidly tucking her hair behind her ear. Someone? Like really? Where do my excuses die when I need them most?

"Okay. Where do you wanna get off?" He asked, slight disappointment in his voice. Why did she not tell a name? Was she seeing somebody? Did she not trust him enough to tell? How did it matter to him anyway? It did not matter.

Gauri sighed once the car pulled away. She felt bad for not having wished him despite of knowing that it was his birthday today. But anyway she would wish him eventually. She quickly dialled Rudra's number. Hoping in her heart that there surprise filled Omkara with happiness .

Omkara entered the mansion still thinking about Gauri while his gaze was on his phone. Suddenly there was a loud cheer and he heard a loud 'surprise'. He looked up to find the living hall decorated with flowers, the pillars adorning silk like decorative clothing and right in the middle, under the chandelier were gathered his favorite people. He looked around grinning, spotting a few faces belonging to their close friends and other of relatives. But his gaze quickly settled on his brothers. They had worn their brightest smile ever. He walked up to them smiling. In seconds he had embraced them. As the trio hugged Rudra chirped in a 'happy birthday Om'.

"Omkara. Not fair." Anika exclaimed and Shivaay pulled her into the hug. Omkara smiled adoring the two.

"Happy Birthday Omkie." She wished him sweetly, giving his hand a warm squeeze.
