Chapter 26 : Fallen For The Devil
Omkara walked out of the washroom straightening his coat. As he walked over to his chair he noticed two roses bound together in a fancy packing placed on his desk. He blinked his eyes and looked at it. From where on earth did they get there? There was just one person he could think of who had guts to do that - Gauri. But why would she? Well, lately she was doing everything she wouldn't do if she was the Gauri he had met a month ago. Besides the little encounter, he had with her today further hinted towards her being the one. Did she remember what happened that night? The sudden boldness she got around him could only be possible if she ... she had started realizing her feelings for him. Frustrated he sat on the desk pressing the button.Minutes later she walked in. Without knocking once again. It annoyed him. "Can you not knock and come in?" He spoke irritated as she approached his desk. Her lips twitched a bit and she turned around walking to the door.
"Where are you going, now!" He had barely exclaimed his annoyance when she tapped on the open door loudly.
"Happy?" She asked tilting her face to glance at him. Omkara tightened his jaw, irked up. She walked back to the table again.
"What are these doing here?" He asked in his best possible serious tone.
She smiled momentarily looking at the deep red pretty roses. "Certainly not dancing." She spoke with amusement filled eyes. They're just lying here."
Omkara tightened his jaw muscles. Had someone replaced her? She was freaking annoying. "Who put them here?" He asked aloud banging his hand on the table.
"How am I supposed to know?"
"You don't know?" He asked raising his eyebrow with a warning look.
"Wait." She looked at him folding her arms. "Are you trying to imply I kept them here?" She asked quizzically.
Omkara stared at her. First, she should stop folding her arms like that. It made him look at all the wrong places. Second, she should not be asking questions when he expected answers. "No one else in this office cares to mess around my desk, you see."
"Thanks, for the compliment. But I did not place it here. Don't think that highly of yourself. By the way, the candidates are waiting outside. Let me know when you're done with appreciating and talking about roses. So that we can do some work instead. "
Omkara had enough. This woman had transformed into a stubborn rebellious teenage girl overloaded with haughtiness. In quick strides, he was standing inches away from her. "I have warned you before, don't keep this attitude with me."
Gauri smiled a little looking aside.
"You've forgotten, it seems, of what I am capable of. " he hissed angrily. She wasn't supposed to be doing things that made her more lovable. More so, when he was struggling to keep himself away from her.
Gauri turned to look at him. "I haven't. I will never." She knew what he was capable of. There was this black hole inside him. That sucked in all his light. That made him like the dark night. But then she also knew how yet, in all his darkness he knew how to embrace the light. He was capable of loving. He was capable of caring.
"But tell me," she asked flickering her eyes a little, "what's with this, you coming so close to me always?"
Omkara slightly moved his head looking at her squarely. For heaven's sake, what was happening? The only reason why it was easy to intimidate her, was because she was scared of his proximity and never questioned back. Never had she, the confidence to meet his eyes. But here she was, looking into his eyes like she had acquired new skill of reading souls by looking into eyes.
