Chapter 16: Lawyer's Confusion

( P A S T )

"Shivaay!" Omkara barged into Shivaay's room.

"What the hell is going on?" He hollered folding his hand. Shivaay looked up from his screen.

"Hello, Om. Why are you barking?" Shivaay's eyes gleamed with mischievous amusement.

"What's happening? Mom said I am to go with her to see some girl for marriage. She said you told her that I said yes. Are you crazy or something? What's this about? Is it something to do with company mergers? Look Shivaay..I am.."

"Slow down man. To answer your questions- one, you are over Gauri cause it's been more than one week and you never said anything about missing her. Two- the girl's really a nice catch as Anika puts it. Anika apparently met her at some wedding a month ago. Third- the wedding will be profitable. So, I think you should give it a try."

"I don't believe this. You called me early for this. I was better off.."

"Take a nice shower and get dressed. You're going to see a girl!" Saying that Shivaay shifted his attention back into his laptop screen. Omkara knew he didn't have an option. Maybe he could just go have dinner and come back. Yeah, pretend it's just a casual dinner. On his way back to the room he remembered that kiss. God knew he couldn't get over it. He so badly wanted one glimpse of her. Maybe he should just man up and call. What if she hates him now? Why did all of this have to be so complicated? Sighing he walked into the washroom, hoping the night went by un a breeze.

Omkara had been rendered incapable of functioning normally. While entering the restuarant he had spotted Gauri. She was dressed in a pretty peacock blue anarkali. Her hair straight and left free. However, she hadn't noticed him owing to the little distance between them. Omkara paid no heed when his mother asked him to walk in. Stupid Shivaay. Why did he have to tell his mother he'd come? But he was also the savior. He was so glad Shivaay had. Cause he wouldn't get to see her otherwise. He thought whether he should walk over to her and say a hi. Of course and then when she asks how come he was out of his office tell her that he was attending a dinner arranged to meet a girl for marriage. Stupid!

He marched into the restuarant before she could see him. On his way in he remembered her talking about arrange marriage during their Delhi trip. A small smile made it to his lips. She was such a beautiful and joyous person to be around. He missed her. Damn, he missed her!

He looked up when he heard his father talk to a man and his eyes grew wide. Gauri's father stood their in all glory. What on earth? He turned to his mother who had a playful smile on her face. "That's the girl's dad." She spoke tilting her head so that only he could hear. His eyes only grew wider. Girl's dad? Gauri's dad? That meant.. the girl was Gauri!

"Seriously?" He whispered looking at his mother astounded.

"Well, we all like Gauri. And um, she's not your assistant anymore so there's no way we are messing with your professional life."

"This is awkward!" Omkara muttered before Mr.Sharama greetd him with a warm handshake.

"Gauri is just coming ..with her mother. They met an old friend and neighbor." He explained. Omkara nodded. Awkwardness had only begun! Could he disappear? Why didn't Shivaay prepare him for this in advance? Well, Shivaay would be have to be charged later on. He wondered if Gauri was aware that he was the guy she was meeting.

Gauri sat at the dinning table solving sudoku.she glance up at the clock. She had watched three episodes of Impractical Jokers, tidied their bedroom, finished three crosswords, and was finally on her second sudoku grid. It was half past eleven with no signs of Omkara. He said he'd come early. She frowned, she hated his workaholic nature. But she also knew that he had been working hard on the case. Hopefully the hearing would go in his favor tomorrow. Ten minutes later Omkaar walked in evidently tired. Gauri rushed to help him with the pile of files and his usually heavy bag that he carried. She quickly took a few files whispering a "hi!"
