Chapter 5 : The Conviction

"Well said." I blinked to find a lady before me. She looked like in her late forties. She had curly hair, a radiant smile and was dressed tastefully.

"Hi, I am Jaanvi Singh Oberoi, Omkara's mother." She extended her hand. Oh my God! His mother! I forced a smile slipping my hand into hers. "Hello Ma'am."

"Mom?" Omkara's bewildered voice was heard. We both turned to look inside the cabin.

"She is right Omkara. You need to get a life. There is a family you have back at home." She turned towards me, "Have you had dinner?"

"No. I was just leaving." I smiled lightly.

"Great. I have got lots of food."she said looking at the cover in her hands. "This has become an everyday thing. He comes home late eats late and disappears without breakfast. I knew you guys wouldn't have had anything. Come on Gauri join us."

"Ah, its okay Ma'am. I will just..."

"Gauri, no formality. I know my son keeps you on your toes with all the work. Trust me my cooking isn't all that bad. On the contrary its generally appreciated." She winked at me with a enchanting smile. Like mother, like son.

"Now coming back to this man. Gauri if not for you, I am sure this man would have turned into skeleton. I mean look at him he's half his size."

"Mom?" Omkara shared a knowing look with his mother.

I chose to remain silent and gave a light smile. I wondered how she even knew my name. As though to answer my doubts she spoke, " Omkara tells me how you bring him breakfast everyday. Though I still don't understand why he likes outside food so much. I mean I don't cook bad. Do I Om?"

"Mom!" he whined covering his face with his palms. I ate up my giggle at that. So cute.

"Come come Gauri. You'll be the judge today." His mother spoke calling me over to the chair.

"Mom, not here. Please take the other room. I will be there in five minutes."

"Two!" his mother ordered, and smiled at me, "Come."

I smiled lightly nodding. Things were getting awkward.

* * *

I couldn't have felt more awkward. During the entire dinner Mrs Senior Oberoi was putting forth complaints against her son expecting me to take her side. While the Oberoi son was giving me explanations accompanied with looks to be on his side. I was thoroughly confused and remain tongue-tied during the entire time. Mrs Jaanvi Singh Oberoi had a very radiant aura and was very witty. Not to miss she had amazing sense of humor and dripping sarcasm. It made me wonder how her son turned out to be quite different from the mother. Perhaps I really did not know him personally.

When I walked back after washing my hands, I heard a snippet from the mother-son conversation that made my cheeks turn pink.

"I understand why you love your office now. Who will like home when there is an adorable and pretty assistant like Gauri." His mother teased.

"Mom, please, she's my assistant." he whisper yelled horrified.

"Oh come on, she is too pretty to have not caught your eyes. Don't lie to me." The mother was grinning. I gulped.

"Mom. Please."

"I see that shyness creep up your face son. Never seen that before. "

"Don't make up stuff mom, please. Not Gauri."
