Virgil stood up from beside the graves of Patton and his father.
He'd visited them every week for the past 2 and a half years.
He nodded to Emile, and told the man to take his time, explaining that he couldn't take seeing the graves any longer. As Virgil trudged back to the car, he pondered if Logan had ever visited the gaves.
You see, after Pattons death, and the shock of realising his father had deceived him, Logan shut down.
He became emotionless and cold, closer to a machine then a man.
It was almost scary.Logan claimed he didn't have the time, nor did he care enough, to visit the site, but somehow, if Virgil and Emile couldn't go due to a mission for a few weeks, the tombstones remained pristine.
Perhaps Roman was responsible, but no one had seen him for years.
Not after the night patton died.
They'd spent weeks searching the tunnel network, but they never found him.ISSPT had only grown in power, but so had the rebels.
They were a sizeable force now, thanks to logan.
The intellectual man had risen through the ranks quickly, locking up his emotions and diving into his work.
Virgil rarely saw him these days.Virgil had taken on the work of an undercover agent in the city.
He'd never admit it, but he remained hopeful of finding Roman. He got into his car, and drove home.
Once he arrived, he texted Emile, letting him know he got home safe.
The men had remained close, with Emile toeing the line between friend and father.
He and Patton were so similar that it hurt sometimes.Virgil got the uneasy feeling that he was being watched.
It had been happening for weeks now.
He'd be sitting in a library, and feel a stare from the direction of a nearby cafe.
Or walking alone in a park, not quite trusting that he was alone. He closed the curtains.
Better.His phone rang.
Odd; the only people with his number were Emile, logan (and given he'd ghosted Virgil for two years, it was unlikely to be him) and Joan. None of these people had private numbers like the one his phone was displaying.
Against his better judgment, Virgil picked up.
A robotic voice awnsered.
?: hello Virgil.
Virgil: who are you?
?: rude. Someone on your side Virgil, I am someone on your side.
Virgil: your — your a rebel?
The voice laughed, harsh and cold.
?: no.
Virgil: then, who?
?: not important. What is important is that I care about your safety Virgil... so I am warning you.
Virgil: warning me? About what?
?: if you value your life, leave the city. Tonight. The call was terminated.
Virgils mind was racing.
He could ask Logan to trace the number, but their was no promise he could, or even if he'd take his call, and even if he did, it would be to late to leave.
They could be bluffing, he supposed.
An ISSPT agent who was to much of a coward to fight him but needed him gone.It could be a threat, or a genuine warning.
