Lauryn's POV
With the wedding in less than two months the Palace was in full wedding mode. With the engagement party in two days, I was in fitting after fitting. I had my wedding dress fitting, the reception fitting, and obviously the engagement dress fitting. I'm at my wits end and I'm usually a patient person.
To top it all off I hadn't told anyone who my fiancé was, and I have to imagine it's hard to plan a dream wedding when both parties were barely involved. But I'm sure it'll work out. I promised to tell my mom who's to become her in-law the morning of the party—which also happened to be my deadline for the whole pick your own fiancé deal.
"Princess not to be rude, but please pay attention. Pick a dress please. We still have a lot to do in two days," my mom's lady in waiting said in a rushing manner. My mom paired her with me today so I could be more 'productive'. I find it annoying but if it makes my mom happy I'll do it.
I picked up a pastel yellow dress off the rack and held it to my body. It was a short dress that stopped just above the knee with a matching detachable train.
"Great. Go try it on so we can get to the next dress." I rolled my eyes walking inti my dressing room. Man this is gonna be a long day.
Zendaya's POV
I sat in the back seat of an Uber tryna to scramble together any bit of courage I could find. I'd made up my mind and decided to give this whole engagement thing a shot. The only issue now was telling Tom. He's gonna be so mad I know it. I know I would be.
"Daya, we're here. C'mon," Darnell said, tapping my shoulder. I let out my last breath of calm air before sliding out of the car. My heart was pounding against my chest. The front door of his apartment seemed to be taunting me as I got closer and closer. I could hear 'turn around!' being shouted over and over again in my head.
Darnell's phone started ringing making me jump. "S-Sorry, I'm gonna stay out here and take this. Good luck though." My jaw dropped as I watched him walk away.
I turned to face the door of Tom's home alone. Okay Z. You've got this.
Just as I raised my hand to knock the door swung open revealing Tom and his dog, Tessa. "Oh hey love. I haven't seen you in a minute. You alright?" He asked. The Brit leaned in for a kiss only to be denied as I turned my head.
"Um y-yeah. Can we talk really quick please?" I replied timidly. Tom nodded. "Inside if it's not too much trouble."
He scratched his neck. "I was about to take Tess on a walk, but she can wait a few minutes if it's that important."
I kneeled down to pet Tessa as an apology. We walked into the house making ourselves comfortable on the couch. I fidgeted with the ring in my pocket trying to calm my nerves.
"I Uh....I'm not sure home to say this." Tom grabbed my free hand looking me in the eye. He stared me up and down for a moment. Ugh, why does everyone feel the need to try and read me? It's getting old. Just let me talk.
Our eyes met at the other hand that was in my pocket with the ring. I guess he mistook what I had in my pocket because his eyes got wide. "Are you pregnant?"
"What? No, no, no. Far from it actually. Uh but I'm kind of...b-b-breaking up with you," I said in one breath.
He furrowed his eyebrows. "What? Why? What did I do?" This is what I was afraid of. His nostrils flared and his face got red. "Zendaya please tell me you're joking and if you are it's not funny."
"Tom I'm sorry. Please, please, please believe me when I say it's not you. It's m-me. It truly truly is. I just-"
"That's bullshit but whatever. I think you should leave."
