In terms of time, Hoseok went back to work on a Friday. It had been two weeks since Yoongi began babysitting Youngsoo and the two were already extremely close.
In order to keep Youngsoo acting right for Yoongi, Hoseok made a deal with his son: if Youngsoo is good all week, he will take him out for ice cream, if he is not good all five days, he will not get ice cream, and if he is bad more than two days a week, he will get five dollars removed from his allowance.
Yeah, the five year old has an allowance because it made Youngsoo feel really grown up. Hoseok was glad his son had taken an interest in money and numbers, because it was something Hoseok always loved, even though he never really showed it.
"Dad, can Yoongi-hyung get ice cream with us this week?"
"I don't know. I will ask him if he would like to join us."
Thirty minutes later, the three sit down at a booth in the corner of the ice cream shop. Youngsoo was having trouble deciding who to sit with, so he made Hoseok move to sit next to Yoongi. Hoseok was then convinced that Jimin had been spending too much time with the kid but Youngsoo quickly denied it as he informed Hoseok that the only reason he wanted to sit alone was because he wanted to feel like a grown up. That still didn't change Hoseok's mind.
"So, Dad, I have a question."
"You can ask me anything, buddy."
"Do you like boys?"
"Youngsoo, what do you mean?"
"I mean do you want to kiss boys and make boys feel special?"
"That- where- did Jimin say something like that?"
"Yes! Jimin-hyung told me that sometimes boys like to kiss other boys and sometimes girls like to kiss other girls. Oh, and sometimes, girls and boys like to kiss girls and boys. He says he likes to just kiss boys."
"I don't know that I should tell you that." Hoseok says, looking down at his milk shake.
"Oh come on, Hoseok. Tell the kid. It's not like it's bad for him to know what gay and bisexual means." Yoongi says, nudging the young father with his elbow.
"I mean, I guess it's not a bad thing. Youngsoo, Dad likes kissing boys and girls."
"Do you like kissing Yoongi-hyung?"
"Youngsoo-"
"Yeah, Hoseok. Do you like kissing me?" Yoongi asks with a gummy smile.
"I- well-" The boy stutters, red as a tomato. "I don't know, Youngsoo. Yoongi and I have never k-kissed."
"What do you mean? I thought everybody kissed?"
"Well, yes. But not everybody kisses everyone they know. Yoongi and I have not kissed because we are not dating."
"You should date Yoongi-hyung, then."
"And why's that, buddy?"
"Because I want Yoongi-hyung to be my Dad too."
"Is he better than me?"
"Sometimes. But you are still my only Dad for now."
"For now? Does that mean you think your Dad is gonna get married to another boy?"
"Yes. Dad is going to get married to you, Yoongi-hyung. And then I can call you Dad too."
"Youngsoo, you can't just decide you want two people to marry. They have to decide on their own that they want to marry each other."
"Oh, well do you want to get married to each other?"
"We've got a long way to go before we can make that decision, bud."
"How long does it take?"
"It's different for everybody. It may take months, it may take years."
"Well hurry up because it's boring having one dad!" Youngsoo says, crossing his arms and pouting.
"Youngsoo, come here so I can talk to you." Hoseok says as he scoots back in the booth, allowing space for the young kid to sit in his lap. Youngsoo immediately makes his way into his father's sweet, kind embrace. "If it will make you happy, then I will agree to marry Yoongi-hyung. But don't tell him that."
"As if I'm not right here."
"Shh, Yoongi-hyung, this isn't your conversation."
"Yeah!" Youngsoo says, backing up his father.
"Now, can you go back over there and eat your ice cream? I'll let you help me plan a proposal on Sunday."
The little boy claps and makes his way back to the other side of the table to finish his ice cream in the cutest way possible.
