About an hour later, the team met at the train station. It took a while to get on the train because of all of Erza's luggage. Since Wendy, Carla and Happy went on a mission, Erza had to knock Natsu out. She placed his head on her lap and ate her cake in blissful peace. Gray and Lucy sat next to each other on the seat opposite of Natsu and Erza. Lucy admired her new necklace from Gray that was hanging down from her neck.

"You like it?" Gray broke the silence.

"Yeah. It's so beautiful." She said. Gray smiled and went back to staring out the window as the fields and small villages passed by. After half an hour, he began yawning.

        "You tired, Gray?" Lucy asked.

"Yeah." He responded. Erza got her attention and pointed to how Natsu was positioned on her. Lucy gave her a quizzical look, and after their silent conversation, Erza smiled subtly. Lucy sighed and hesitantly poked Gray. He tiredly looked over and she pointed to Natsu and Erza.

"Do you, um.. Do you want to do that?" She asked nervously.

"Sure, that would be nice. If you don't mind, of course." He smiled. He laid his head gently on Lucy's lap and put his feet up on the seat, taking his shirt off in the process.

"Gray, your shirt." Lucy blushed a little.

"It can wait." He yawned and closed his eyes. Lucy put one hand next to her on the seat and she put her other arm over his bare chest and on his muscular upper arm to keep him from falling onto the floor. After half an hour, Gray grunted and adjusted his legs to a more comfortable position. Lucy found herself touching his black hair. It totally wasn't something she had wanted to do for a long time. Not at all.

"Whoa." She said in a soft voice, careful not to wake him. Erza looked up at her, questioning. "His hair is so soft."

"Really? I didn't think it would be." She scratched her chin.

"Yeah, me too. But it's really soft and smooth." Lucy gently brushed the hair away from his eyes. His lips curved into a small smile at her touch. Lucy tilted her head to one side in confusion. 'does that mean something?' she thought. 'He's pretty cute when he's asle- WAIT, WHAT?! NO! BAD LUCY!' She mentally slapped herself, but she couldn't remove her hand from his hair. She was so mesmerized by how soft and smooth it felt that she kept stroking it. Gray didn't seem to mind. In fact, it seemed that he liked it. They stayed like that for a couple hours until Natsu was conscious again.

"What happened?" Natsu looked around, thoroughly confused. Then he realized where he was, turned green, and started gagging. Lucy quitely scolded him and told him to get a hold of himself, but it didn't work. Gray slowly opened his eyes. He sat up and glared at Natsu.

"Would you stop making so much noise?" He said in a low, irritated voice that sent chills up Lucy's spine. Natsu continued making noise."Fine then." Gray sighed and brought his arm back and punched Natsu, slamming him against the back of the seat. Lucy cringed and Natsu was unconscious again.

        "That works, too." Lucy said.

"He woke me up from a peaceful dream, which i don't have very often, and I didn't want him throwing up everywhere." Gray layed back down and closed his eyes. "Better for him too, if you think about it."

"You don't usually have peaceful dreams?" Lucy sounded concerned. Gray's eyes opened again.

"No. Most of the time I don't. When I do, they're usually about... About my family." He responded. Lucy looked into his dark eyes that were pensively clouded.

"Gray... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked." She said.

"It's alright, you didn't know." He reassured her. Lucy was really concerned for him now. "It's good to remember your past and where you're from, right?"

"Yeah. Sometimes I cry when I think about my old life. Being locked up in a mansion and not having any friends to play with, and my Mother not being there." Lucy said.

"So do I. Whenever I think about the Tower of Heaven and how we all worked so hard in hope that we would someday be free." Erza added.

"And we're all okay now because of Fairy Tail and all our great friends." Gray said and then eventually drifted off to sleep again. Lucy watched the green countryside pass for a while before going back to studying the boy sleeping on her. Her eyes rested on the scar on his forehead. He was right, she concluded. They were all good people with strong bonds all because they had joined Fairy Tail. She realized then that Gray had joined Fairy Tail in the darkest point of his life. He had lost everything. Who knows who he would have become if he took a different path. Would he turn out to be someone she would have fought against as a guild member? Her thoughts stopped abruptly as he stirred and woke up, his charcoal eyes- although half asleep- erased all those ideas. The light that resides deep in those dark eyes told her that he didn't have it in him to be a villain. His heart was true, and he was her comrade.

"Gray, you might wanna put your shirt on before we get there." Lucy pointed out.

"Ah! I forgot about that!" He searched for his shirt and quickly put it on. " I guess we should get him back to reality, then." Gray jerked his thumb toward Natsu. Erza shook his shoulder purposefully and he became conscious again.

"What the- Where am I?!" He then clasped his hand over his mouth and bent over.

"We're almost there, Natsu." Lucy informed him. "By the way, where are we going?"

"We are going to Clover." Erza stated."We will be protecting a House from bandits while the owners are on vacation."

Sooner than they thought, the train stopped at Clover. The dimming sunlight suggested that they should find their way to their destination quickly.
