Chapter 33

Caitlin's POV

The next morning I stroll out of my bedroom at 10:00. Today we are just hanging out at the house so I get to sleep in. I enter the living room. "Do you know what day it is?" Shawn questions me like I should know.

"Hmmm," I think. "It's not your birthday. It's not my birthday," I joke. It takes me a couple minutes to figure it out, my blondness and all. "Oh it's Canada Day!!"

Today is July 1st. It feels so weird being in America during Canada Day, especially when Shawn and I are the only Canadians. We both know that it's gonna be a huge deal with fireworks for the 4th of July.

I remember always seeing fireworks on July 1st. Whether it was at the lake, the park or at summer camp.

"Oh happy Canada Day Shawn and Caitlin!" Taylor yells. The whole room erupts into that.

"Thanks..." we reply awkwardly.

Shawn and I go take a seat on the open love seat. Carter is sitting on the chair next to us. I look over to see him staring at his phone with the biggest smile on his face.

"Who are you texting?" I ask him.

"No one," he says blushing.

"It's Sunshine isn't it?" Kaylor says, teasingly. He blushes even more.

"Who's sunshine?" I ask confused and out of the loop. She is Carter's girlfriend back in North Carolina. He's been texting and facetiming her since he got here.

"Thats such a cool name!" Hayes says amazed.

"You just wish you had a name that great, don't you?" Nash bugs him.

"Yup. It would be cool. It's way cooler than your name!" Hayes says. Here it comes, we all think.

"Oh ya well Nash is a very unique name, unlike Hayes," Nash shoots back. Everyone watches their argument. Nash and Hayes have this thing where they try constantly to be better than the other. They are both so competitive.

"Well I can still climb a tree better," Hayes defends. I laugh remembering that youtube video.

"Ya but that was a useless skill," Nash replies.

"No it's not!" Hayes says in protest sounding a little offended. Nash looks at him in disgust, like he can't believe their really related.

"Girls, girls. Your both pretty!" Matt says. The whole room bursts into laughter.

We go eat breakfast. While the others are doing dishes Kaylor and I go explore. The property is so big and we haven't seen all of it. Kaylor and I find a volleyball court. "We should play volleyball!" We both shout at the exact same time.

We walk into the house to see 2 new boys in the kitchen. Sam and Dillon are here now. I give each of them a hello hug and we talk for awhile. Now were all here. "How about that volleyball game," I whisper to Kaylor.

We all go to the volleyball court. There are 16 of us. Nash, Cam, Jack, Jack, Aaron, Dillon, Kaylor and I are all on a team. Shawn, Hayes, Jacob, Sam, Aaron, Matt, Carter and Mahogany are on the other team.

Of course Nash and Hayes are on opposite teams, so the competition between them is gonna be huge.

"Your going down!" Shawn smack talks to me.

"Puh-lease," I say to Shawn. "Were gonna kick your butt." And the game starts. I'm not the best at volleyball but it is the one sport I like and I'm not terrible at it.

While playing the ball comes between Kaylor and I, but we both go for it and SMACK! We run right into each other.

"Your supposed to call the ball," Jack G says smartly, like we are dumb and don't know anything. Jack J, who is standing next to me, helps me up.

"Are you guys ok?" Jack G asks us but looks only at Kaylor.

Kaylor sends me a smile. "Let's do this!"

We end up winning the game. I make sure to rub it in Shawn's face. I decide to call my parents before it gets too late. The phone rings a couple times and I'm about to hang up when my mom answers. "Caitlin?"

"Hi mom," I say. She puts me on speaker phone. "Hi dad."

"We've missed you so much!" My mom exclaims.

"I've missed you too. So what are you guys doing tonight?" I ask.

"We are going out with the Mendes' to see the fireworks," my dad replies.

"Cool. Well I should go." I say good goodbye to them. "Love you." Then I hang up. I climb into my bed worn out from the day and fall asleep right away.
