I’ve been with Despite Midnight for around a month now. But things are different, a strange kind of different that makes you paranoid and look over your shoulder more because you know its coming. James hasn’t tried to hurt me since Victor last saved me, in fact he has barely said a thing to me. Instead, he just watches, waiting. His stare is one you can feel on you wether you can see him or not that makes your heart fill with ice. That gnaws at you, burning holes in your back and makes you wonder just what he could be up to. But thats all he ever does, just watches with an unwavering gaze that lasts all day.

Everyone over at Pierce Avenue, Celestina, and Rem have become my new family. When I’m on the bus I’m always sitting in a triangle with Rem and Celestina talking, joking, and telling stories, and when I’m off I’m still with Celestina but over with Pierce Avenue. I found comfort with my new family and settled into a happy niche in which I could deal with my new life. I’m now a permeant merch girl, no one lets me near the stage anymore but I’m happy with it, its an easy and fun job where I get to be friendly and meet new people everyday. Even the vampire part has become normal to me. No one seems any different from the people that show up every night so it’s become one of those unimportant facts stored in the back of my mind.

Once I started getting Rem and Celestina to hang out I couldn’t believe they ignored each other before, it was like they were twins separated at birth that together make a complete person and I knew from the moment their eyes first met that they’d be more then friends. During long bus rides while I was sketching in the corner by the window, I’d catch them exchanging smiles and looking at each other as if speaking a wordless language. But, they were both shy when it came to love and tried to ignore the chemistry that was obvious between them, I swear even James the most loveless man alive could tell they had something.

“Do you guys like each other?” I asked one day smiling. We had just left the venue for and was heading to the next and we sat in our triangle on the floor by the kitchen as we always did. Celestina glared at me and Rem was thoughtful for a moment. “Everyone sees it except for you guys. Don’t be mad I just thought you needed a little push.” Celestina blushed hiding her face.

“I do like her.” Rem said quietly with a loving smile. Celestina looked at him in shock. “Ti penso sempre” He said taking her chin and gazing into her eyes. She would have melted regardless just staring into his eyes but he also said something cute in italian which really got her.

“Baciami” She whispered leaning into his lips. It was the cutest scene I’ve seen since I’ve gotten here but I couldn’t shake the 3rd wheel feeling and quietly snuck away so to not ruin their moment of bliss. I was impressed that he knew a little italian, I bet he learned a bunch of cute things to say for her so he could make the moment right. I walked to the back of the bus to the couches Celestina and I had been sleeping on recently because james, for lack of a better word, just didn’t give a shit anymore. I spent every Wednesday night on the Pierce Avenue bus now without permission and he still didn’t care. I climbed under my fluffy, blue blanket, something Rem had gotten me, and curled up into a ball, gazing at the blur of land outside the window. My heart ached for a companion of it’s own but I didn’t know if I was strong enough to let one in. I’d never actually had a relationship before because fear kept me away. I was so scared to get hurt that I’d never fall.

Suddenly the bus turned sharply and jerked to a stop in a walmart parking lot.

“Okay kiddies gather.” James said hopping out of his bunk and waving his finger in a circle. I waited until John and Shuan got there at least before getting up, I’d never be the first one to these meetings. “You’ve got an hour, go get what you need. Humans pair up with one of us for money.” He said then leaving.
