Victor’s POV
“The symptoms sound right but that problem is so ancient, there have been no cases of that effecting humans for close to a hundred years now.” The a tour doctor said. Spinning in his swivel chair to face me while running a troubled hand through his curly black hair.
“I know, but its happening now. and to a very close friend of mine, is there anything you can do?” I asked, my heart beat quickened and my stomach dropped the more we talked about this. I went into investigating my idea with so much optimism but now I starting to see only darkness at the end of the tunnel. I’m beginning to lose hope.
“There are two options.”
“There are?!” I said frantically with a little jumped. He was the only one who mentioned options, everyone else said it was a lost cause.
“Either remove her from the presence of vampires or start planning her funeral early. The earlier you start the cheaper it is.” He advised, adding a “helpful” note at the end with a smile. What an ass... I groaned in frustration.
“Her soul mate is a freakin’ vampire, how the hell an I suppose to do that?!” I snapped.
“Theres always the latter option.” He said with a smug grin. Without thinking I reached out and yanked him out of the chair by the front of his shirt pulling his face to mine.
“This isn’t a joke to me and a ton of other people.” I growled in his face. “Your blue team right?” He nodded quickly, his eyes betraying him and showing his fright. I don’t get mad often but when I do everyone knows you stay out of my way. “How great do you think your life is going to be if you don’t do anything to help your leader’s, son’s soul mate. You know he’ll be inheriting the thrown in a couple years right?”
“But I cant do anything. No human who has tour sickness ever survives it if they stay near vampires for extended periods of time, she’ll be dead by the end of this tour.” He pleaded. I dropped him and stormed out of the tent seething with anger.
Ha, tour sickness. What a stupid, nonchalant name for a silent killer. In reality very few vampires get attached to their humans so if they did happen to get it they wouldn’t care enough to give it more then that silly name. I knew she was a lost cause from the moment I realized she had it but I didn’t want to admit it to myself. I wanted to be her hero and find a cure but I couldn’t, one just doesn’t exist.
I knew what I needed to do. I needed to prepare Daniel, he still was trying to play stupid and convince himself it was just something humans get when over worked but he needs reality and he needs it now because he might not have that much longer with her. It was a cruel thing really. I’ve known Daniel almost my whole life. Our families thought we were enemies but really we used it as an excuse to hang out and be friends, he was my first friend actually so I knew better then anyone the struggles he’s gone through, his worries, his problems. I remember when we celebrated our 500th birthdays together, I had Kate already but he still hadn’t found his soul mate yet. We acted like it was a joke and called him old and stuff but I knew he was actually feeling the emptiness, he’s always such a bad liar. Now I cant get the look he wore the day he told me he found Dyvia out of my head. They’ve only known each other for a month it wasn’t fair! He was so excited that day when he told me about her, his face only fell a little when he told me she was with James because he was just to happy to be sad about that in the moment. His eyes sparkled and he radiated happiness, something that hasn’t happened for a couple hundred years, and he fell asleep with a grin that night. I sighed, standing outside the SV bus so unprepared for this moment. I stood outside it for around five minuets before I found the nerve to knock. Daniel was the one who opened the door and now that memory of his radiating happiness was replaced by this one of sadness.
