1983,
Johns POV:
i was so excited for tonight, Freddie had asked if i wanted to go to the fair with him, y'know like rides and lights and candy floss, it was going to be amazing. i was in my last year of high school and Freddie had left last year, but made sure to keep in touch.

he was dark, tall and handsome, any girl- or in my case boy's dream. he said he would come pick me up at 8:30 and it was quarter past now. i straightened out my pattered shirt which i wore unbuttoned over a plain white t-shirt along with some mom jeans. i ran my hand through my curly hair, i loved the new perm trend.

i hummed along to the music playing on my radio, George Michael's voice ringing through my ears. Wham was currently my favourite band, after ABBA of course but they sadly broke up last year.
i picked up a 'top of the pops' magazine that i had already read and studied the pages. i was quite a feminine guy, i liked girls music, fashion, and well... boys.

my mother had no problem with how i was and my father had passed when i was seven, but mum reassured me he would be so proud of who i had become.

i heard a few knocks on the door and suddenly my stomach became full of butterflies, i rushed back over to my mirror and checked my appearance once more before slipping on some beat out Adidas trainers.

i practically flung myself down the stairs, one to make sure my mother didn't get to the door first and two because i just couldn't wait to see my date.

"I'll get it!" i called out to my mother who either didn't hear me, or didn't care for what i had to say.

"oh nonsense!" she waved me off opening the door to reveal a handsome boy. he wore tight blue jeans that really defined his.. package, he also had on a tight white t-shirt and his old football jersey. his hair was dark and slicked back, he looked divine.

"hello you must me Freddie, i'm Johns mother, Lilian." she said letting him into the house.

"thank you Lilian, i would have thought you to be johns sister." he smiled charmingly, making my mother blush.

"oh stop it!" she giggled, covering her face a little.

i rolled my eyes and stepped passed her over to freddie,
"hello dear." he said softly before kissing my cheek lightly, making me blush even more than my mum.

"hi freddie." i quietly said back.

"well it was lovely meeting you Lilian but we really must get going, i hope to see you again soon. i'll get john back by 11." he said politely placing a hand on my back.

"oh take as much time as you need, go have fun. i love you johnny!" she cooed waving us out the door, making me cringe at the name she had chosen to call me.

" bye mum."

i closed the door and walked over to freddie's car, he opened the passenger sides door for me, which i thanked him shyly.
he sat in the drivers seat and started the car.

"make sure you have you seat belt on, i'm a really shit driver." he smiled as he fastened his seatbelt, and i double checked mine.
"alright let's go!" he grinned driving forward.

and he wasn't joking, he really was a shit driver. i had to hold onto the side of the car to steady myself as he wizzed down the road, knocking over dozens of rubbish bins and nearly a small child. yet he was smiling and laughing the whole time, this made me relax a bit more.

we arrived at the fair ground pretty quickly as we sped the whole way, freddie pulled into a spare parking space and stopped the car.
"you ready?" he grinned over at me.

"ready Freddie." i smiled back and got out the car.

we made our way into the gates, it was magical. with flashing lights illuminating all different colours, cheerful music playing, many carnival games which where sure to be rigged but you waste your money on anyway, rides, children running about an laughing, so much food each with their own iconic scent that filled the air and finally a large ferris wheel that looked over the whole fair.
