Calum gave me a ring not long after that night we talked about getting married. I didn't tell anyone what it meant for a long time though - other than Zoe after she moved back to New York where she was far away and I could hang up on her if she got mad. It was gonna be a while before we actually did it anyway.
It was almost a year before we even talked about it again. That was when he asked me for real. He didn't have to, I was gonna marry him with just the a question of if I wanted to and a ring. It wasn't anything really special though. He asked Brodie if he thought we should get married and when Brodie said yes, he asked me again. We were sitting in the living room watching cartoons at the time.
It was another few months before we started planning anything.
"I don't want a big wedding," Calum said noticing my notebook of ideas while he made a bowl of cereal for Brodie. "Just us and Brodie and some friends and parents. That's all."
"Come on, Cal," I said rolling my eyes at him, "I'm a super model. The level of fame that produces has people expecting a big wedding."
He only stared at me even though I was only mostly joking.
It took a while to agree on everything, which was a nightmare because we both wanted really different things, but when it was all done and ready, I just wanted to go to sleep.
I had Calum's parents in the guest room, Mali on the couch, my parents and siblings were in a hotel but they spent all day here anyway. Zoe was staying with Ashton, which was gonna be a train wreck, but she wouldn't listen to me at all.
"Brodie is finally in bed." I sighed as I fell into our bed in exhaustion. He was almost four, so he was at an age to put off going to sleep as long as possible. The bedtime routine consisted of a glass of water, a short story, goodnight kisses, and checking for monsters. We went through it about four times that night.
"Come here, Reese." Calum said, pulling me into his arms. He kissed my cheek and jaw for a moment before he sighed. "We're getting married tomorrow."
"I know." I sighed and cuddled into him. "Can we just skip it and sleep all day tomorrow."
"No!" He laughed and hugged me a bit tighter. "You don't wanna marry me?"
"I really really do." I said seriously, "but I also really really really wanna sleep."
I turned onto my back and Calum's hand moved down to rest against my belly. I had a little bump there where our new baby was growing. We hadn't told one single person - other than Brodie - about him. I was 22 weeks in and we found out two weeks ago that it wasn't another boy. Calum was thrilled about it. I was too, but I was hoping for a girl this time.
"You can go to sleep." Calum said bringing me back to the conversation, "but you have to wake up tomorrow and marry me."
"And then I can go back to sleep!" I gasped. He laughed and nodded before he kissed the side of my head. "You try growing a baby, take care of a very active four year old, and plan a wedding."
"Well I'm already doing two of those things." Calum pulled the blankets around us and I snuggled down into him. "Can't really grow a baby though."
"I know." I grumbled before I kissed him goodnight.
I got to get married tomorrow.
To Calum.
The one that I met when I was just a kid. The one that I broke up with because we were going out separate ways. The one that I found again when I moved to LA. The one who was so amazing with Brodie. The one that I loved enough to happily carry a second baby for him.
