Ashton Irwin ;
I stepped out of the shower, dripping wet. The warmth was enough to silence the voices in my head for a while, but as the chilled air met my skin, they began to whisper again. I pulled a towel off of the rack and quickly dried myself off starting with my hair. I wrapped it around my waist and wiped the fog out of the mirror in circles, again examining myself in it. What was I gonna do? Jill seemed like she believed me, but what did I know? I hardly knew her. I picked the pair of boxers and sweatpants up off the floor that I got from Adam's room and quickly slid them on. I put his socks on too because I had a feeling we weren't gonna be here long. Then finally, I slid his black cut off t-shirt over my shoulders and pulled it down over my head. My hair was a mess but I didn't care. I brushed it to the side and slung the towel over my shoulder, exiting the bathroom.
As I got into the living room, immediately I was trucked with the smell of pasta and meat sauce. My mouth began to water, as my stomach turned inside me. It had actually been a while since I've had anything decent to eat now that I thought about it. Jill sat on the couch looking through what seemed like a box of pictures. I sat down beside her on the couch smiling cheekily.
"Whatcha doing?" I frilled with my hair catching her a little off guard.
She wore a broken smile. "Just, going through some memories...."
She showed me a picture in her hand, and in that moment my heart sunk right down to the floor. I gulped trying to hide my guilt. It was her. And just like that, the tears from that night filled my eyes.
"Who is that?" I croaked, swallowing the guilty lump in my throat.
"Sarah..." she whispered in a cracked voice. "My daughter...."
"She's really, pretty..." I fought the tears as hard as I could. Of course I knew who she was. Jill's tears only made me want to cry. "I'm so sorry-"
She sniffled, smiling vaguely. "It's okay Ashton, it's not your fault-""
Those words nearly broke me. She didn't know but I knew better. I turned away from her, wiping my eyes so she wouldn't see.
"Are you alright?" she gave me an odd glare.
"Y-Yeah..." I chuckle rubbing my eyes. "I just, it sucks you know? She didn't deserve to die-"
"I'd rather not get into it" she shook her head wiping her tears. "God I shouldn't have even brought these down here..."
She started gathering everything back up and stuffing it back into the box. Frankly I was glad, because I couldn't stand to look the girl we killed that night in the face; even if it were only a picture. She sealed the lid tight and slid it under the coffee table, pulling herself back together.
"I hope you're hungry..." she smiled not even looking at me. "Supper should be ready-"
"Yeah?" I smiled in relief. "What did you make?"
"Spagetti?" she turned to me like she were guessing weather I liked it or not. "Hopefully you eat that-"
"I-I do" I chuckled. "Thank you, you didn't have to-"
"No, no it's okay" she giggled. "It's been a while since I've had a guest to cook for, please enjoy. The plates are in the cupboard next to the fridge, and the sliverware is in the drawer under the sink. Help yourself."
