"Since when did you start wearing earrings?" Josh asked from besides Oli in English. Mr Walker was off sick and the school hadn't bothered to organise any kind of substitute so everyone was just sat in the classroom chatting and messing around. Some kids were at the front, going through the clutter in Mr Walkers draws, whilst everyone else was sat with their friends in small circles. Josh, however, had decided to stay sat next to Oli instead of with his friends, not that Oli was complaining."Since when do you notice things like that?" Oli asked back, mimicking Josh's voice. Josh laughed casually and shrugged. Oli always noticed how Josh had this laid back vibe about him, like he didn't care about anything at all.
"Since I noticed how cute you are, especially with those earrings in." Josh smirked back. Oli rolled his eyes at his best friends brother.
To say Josh and Elissa are twins, they didn't look much alike. Josh had brown hair whilst Elissa had dirty blonde. Her face was much rounder then his and her eyebrows were thinner. They did, however, share the same nose, eyes and smile.
"I'm not cute, I'm feisty." Oli sassed, making Josh laugh.
"Whatever you say, cutie." Josh winked. "I was just trying to compliment you, you should be grateful."
"Ah yes, Joshua I am so thankful for your praise, I honestly don't know how I would cope without it." Oli retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Guess I'll keep having to compliment you then, if you can't cope without it." Josh shrugged. Oliver played with the edges of his school skirt between his finger tips and laughed. He didn't know why he felt so nervous when speaking with Josh, but he did.
"You're sweet talking doesn't work on me, Franceschi." Oli smiled as he held Josh's eye contact. Playfulness stirred in the blue of his irises. They looked at each other for maybe a moment too long, just looking into each other's eyes like they were the most interesting thing in the world.
"Why are you blushing then?" Josh asked, cocking his head to the side with a confident smirk.
"I'm not blushing!" Exclaimed Oli, instantly feeling heat rise to his face.
"Sure you're not, Sykes." Josh said sarcastically as he reached out to press his cold hand against Oli's hot, pink flushed face. "This is definitely not a blush at all."
Oli huffed bashfully and swatted away Josh's hand from his heated face. Josh's hand left his cheeks and instead began to play with Oli's dangly teddy bear earrings. Oli rolled his eyes but let him touch them.
He wondered if the person who gave him the earrings was sitting in this room right now. Did they notice the way Josh was touching him, touching them? Did it make them jealous?
His thoughts were cut off by the bell that rung loudly through the classroom, even with all the loud talking that was going on. Oli sighed and left the classroom as quick as possible, rushing to his locker as he was eager to get home.
He was just about to walk out the school gates when he spotted Elissa walking over to him. They greeted each other and hugged like usual, Oli noticing Elissa pull back slightly early from the hug to tell him something.
"My mums having this big dinner party for friends and family on Saturday and she wants your family to come." She said with a neutral expression. Oli couldn't tell if she though her mums idea was good or not.
"All of us?" He asked.
"Yeah, even Tom. She said she will text your mum tonight." She said.
"Cool." Oli shrugged. "I'll tell her to check her phone."
"Super. I'll talk to you later, bye." She said quickly before scurrying off. Oliver sighed and continued walking home. He didn't know if going to a dinner party with both his parents and Elissa's parents was a good thing or not.
They would definitely find a way to embarrass him in in front of Elissa's family, he knew that much. They would end up spilling all his most embarrassing childhood moments to everyone, including Josh and Elissa. But it could also be fun. At least he would get to spend some time with Elissa, maybe he could even sleep over too.
Plus, Saturday was too days away which meant he still had ages to decide if he wanted to go or not. He might as well, his parents would probably get mad at him if he didn't. It wouldn't be that bad would it? What's the worse that could happen?
I guess the only way he would find out was to wait for it to happen.
