Elissa fiddled with the pockets of her school blazer until she finally found what she was looking for and produced a set off keys out of the black fabric. She quickly opened up her front door before ushering Oli inside after her.Oli slipped his shoes off and dumped his backpack on the floor along with Elissa's, not failing to notice that someone else's backpack was also on the hallway floor. This place was like a second home for him and he had come here basically every other day since he became friends with Elissa in year 7. Elissa's parents didn't mind in the slightest, in fact they loved Oli like he was their own son and treated him as such.
The house was a pretty standard English house, nothing special but it still felt like home. The walls of the hallways and living room were painted a soft yellow, giving the entire house a warm feeling. Scattered around the house were many family photographs, some even featuring Oli himself, mostly showing Elissa and Josh as they grew up.
The friends ran up the stairs and into Elissa's bedroom. It was painted peachy pink with a large double bed in the centre and a TV hanging off the wall. Above the bed was a string of fairy lights which had Polaroid photos dangling from it by wooden clips. Oli's favourite of the photos was one of him and Elissa with bright makeup smeared across their cheeks, silly smiles on their faces. In the corner of the room was a wardrobe with glossy white doors, which stores all or Elissa's clothes as well as some of Oli's.
Oli flopped down onto the bed and groaned. He felt the bed dip beside him as Elissa sat down next to him. He rolled over on to his front to smile at his best friend.
"Disney marathon?" She asked with her eyebrows raised.
"Disney marathon." He confirmed with a smile. Oli loved Disney films, he always had. He adored the classic storylines featuring princess and princes that fell in love and lived happily ever after. It made him want to find his own Prince Charming one day.
"I'll go make us some popcorn. You can stay up here and get changed." Elissa said before getting off the bed and leaving the bedroom to go make some popcorn in the kitchen.
Oli groaned lazily before getting up and walking over to Elissa's wardrobe. He opened up the wooden doors and went to the part where all his clothes were stored. In around year 8, Elissa and him decided it would be easier if they kept some of their clothes at both of their houses so that they could sleep over whenever they wanted to without having to go back home to get clothes.
Oli grabbed some red plain pyjama and an oversized hoodie before closing the wardrobe doors and beginning to strip off. He was stood their in his boxers, just about to put on his hoodie when there was a knock on the door.
Before Oli could react, the door swung open, revealing a pissed off looking Josh.
"Elissa have you-oh, s-sorry I didn't realise it was you." He said when his eyes landed on Oli, his pissed off expression turning into an embarrassed one. They stood there awkwardly for a second staring at each other, not really knowing what to say. Josh's cheeks turned red as his eyes slowly scanned Oliver's practically naked body. Oli decided to speak up again when he felt Josh staring at his crotch for just slightly too long.
"Are you just going to stand there watching me or..." Oli said awkwardly, causing Josh's eyes to snap up to Oliver's face.
"Uhhh yeah, s-orry I'll uhhh, I'll leave you alone. I-I d-didn't... It's j-j-just th-at... Sorry." Josh stuttered awkwardly but still stayed stood frozen.
"It's fine, Josh." Oli smiled, finally turning around to slip his hoodie over his head. When he looked back over at the door, Josh was gone. He shrugged and finished getting dressed before climbing into the bed, brining the covers up to his chin as he found himself lost in thought.
Why was Josh acting so weird around him? Was it because he opened the door on him getting changed? Yeah that awkward but it's not that awkward. He thought back to the way that Josh's eyes traveled up and down his exposed body almost like he was checking him out. But why would he be? Josh was straight as far as Oli knew, I mean he had had tonnes of girlfriends in the past.
That was his first proper conversation with Josh Franceschi, despite basically living at his house Oli had never said more than a couple words to him. The most they ever spoke was when Oli asked him to pass the milk at breakfast or something.
At school Josh acted so confident, he didn't think someone like Josh would be that embarrassed about walking in on someone changing. He expected Josh to just laugh it off and leave, not stand there gawking like a fish and stuttering all over the place. It made him question what he really knew about the popular, confident Josh Franceschi that everyone knew about at school.
At that moment, Elissa walked thought the bedroom door holding a large bowl of popcorn and a couple of other snacks. She smiled at Oli, dumping all the food on his lap before going over to the corner to get changed herself. Since they had been friends so long, they had changed in front of each other tonnes of times so it wasn't exactly weird for them anymore. Plus, they both knew Oli wasn't exactly interested in the female body and Elissa wasn't interested in his.
When they first became friends Elissa's parents didn't let Oli sleep over or even go in her room because they thought they would end up getting together. Hah, the irony. But now they slept in the same bed almost every night together, not sexually obviously, without either of their parents caring.
Once Elissa had gotten changed, they snuggled up in bed and watched Mulan together in silence, munching away at all the popcorn as they went. Oli didn't open his mouth to speak until Elissa got up to put on The Lion King.
"Your brother is so weird." He said.
"What makes you think that?" She asked, slipping the Mulan DVD back into its case.
"He accidentally walked in on me getting changed earlier and instead of leaving he just stood there, staring at me basically naked." He laughed. "It was so awkward."
Elissa eyes widened slightly and she froze. Her shoulders went tense as she looked lost in thought for a moment. Her eyes looked conflicted, as if she was tossing an idea around in her mind. She unfroze and looked back at Oli with a expression that Oli couldn't read on her face.
"Typical Josh." She shrugged, getting back under the covers with him.
Oli became lost in thought once again, as the scenes of the movie played out in front of him in one massive blur. He couldn't help but think that there was some kind of double meaning to Elissa's words, to that expression that he couldn't read.
Typical Josh? That wasn't exactly very typical for the Josh that he had heard about. So what did Elissa mean?
He rubbed his face in frustration and scrunched up his eyes tightly. All he saw was blue.
