Chapter 3

“Mitch!” I shrieked. He looked at me with big eyes, even in the dark his blue eyes seemed to glisten.

“Lydia, I had no idea I’d see you here” Mitch said.

“Babe, who’s this” Paige asked. I looked at her with big eyes. This was a messed up situation to be in.

“Umm babe, this is my boss Mitch, you know from the butcher’s shop” I said feeling awkward. I had a huge knot forming in my throat. It was kind of getting hard to breath.

“Hi sir, I’m Paige, Lydia’s leading lady” Paige said proudly as she stuck her hand for him to shake.

“Well so glad to meet you Paige” Mitch said shaking his hand and winking at me. I guess that was his seal of approval. A blonde haired gray eyed woman stepped forward. She wore a dark blue navy sleeveless dress.

“Oh Lydia, this is Laurie, my lady” Mitch said.

“Hi, pleased to meet you, Mitch has told me so much about you” I said.

“You too Lydia, it’s good to finally meet you” she said shaking my hand.

Mitch was right, she was very pretty.

“So Lydia, I had no idea you were a fan of Red Noon” Mitch said.

“Yeah, I didn’t know you were a fan either” I said trying ignore the knot in my throat.

“Well I wasn’t but Laurie said they were pretty good, so I decided to give them a try, pretty good eh?” Mitch said.

“Yeah, they were great” I said.

“Babe, I’m gonna go pull the car around, I’ll be right back” Paige said.

“Oh let me help you pack” Leon said picking up the cooler.

“You need help getting up sweetie” Paige said sweetly. Boy, she was really playing her role tonight.

“That would be lovely dear” I said. Paige helped me to my feet.

“Don’t miss me too much” Paige said as she left.

“I’ll try not to dear” I said.

“Wow, you guys are so cute together” Mitch said. I could die of shame right now. I told him I wasn’t a lesbian, and now looking at me standing here, like a fool with egg on their face. I appreciated Mitch for not busting me out right then and there. However, I dreaded Monday, when I had to go back to work, and face him.

“Thanks” I said.

“Yeah well, we better get going before traffic gets too heavy. But I’ll see you Monday Lydia” Mitch said giving me a hug.

“See ya then” I said.

“Nice meeting you Lydia” Laurie said also giving me a hug.

“Same to you” I said. After Mitch left, I wanted to die. I wanted to roll out on the ground, and hide my face in shame. It was just my luck that the one night of all nights of my life, my boss had to pop up randomly. I wasn’t gay then, and I certainly am not now or am I? I wasn’t really sure. This whole thing was confusing. Was Paige acting, if so then why did it feel so real. I was conflicted. What do I do now? Did I really like Paige? No, but why did I feel as if I did? Why did I enjoy that kiss so much? Why did the love song sound so good only when I was sitting next to her? Nothing made any sense, you don’t fall in love with someone over night or did you? Or had I feelings for Paige before this? No, she’s annoying Paige from work. The too happy, too cheery, too beautiful, too attractive….. oh wait I’m suppose to be annoyed by her not turned on.
