~~~Jeff's POV~~~
After leaving the traitorous bitch back at the forest, I set out to the mansion. By the time I arrived, BEN was already there, sitting on the couch and playing Majora's Mask. The mansion seemed relatively empty, but I new everyone was just running around with the preparations. Tonight is the annual feast amongst killers and monsters alike, and Slenderman needs to make sure we don't kill each other by sunrise.
"Ah, so you left her back there?" BEN asked, without turning to look at me. I walked over to the couch and sank into the cushions.
"Yup. She begged and begged, tried to tell me she was innocent... Yadda, yadda." I shrugged. "Whatever, not fooling me a second time."
"Did you ever stop to consider that maybe she was telling the truth?" BEN asked, eyes glued on the television. I didn't answer immediately, because I knew I hadn't. The moment I let logic override my anger, I would have stopped completely and listen to her every word. I would have most likely believed whatever lies she had come up with, I would have felt relieved that she wasn't a traitor. But I knew that she had ratted us out, the feeling of betrayal was enough to keep me angry for quite a while.
And yet... Why did I feel such a huge sense of betrayal? I shouldn't care less if she betrayed us, hell, I had known she would do so from the beginning.
I knew what the betrayal was masking. Sheer and utter disappointment. Emptiness. The shattered hope that I wouldn't be lonely anymore.
"I think we might have acted a little irrationally is all I'm saying." BEN added, finally pausing the game and looking over at me. I immediately masked my troubled emotions and glanced at him.
"Well it's too late for that, don't you think?" I spat out, sneering. Sensing that I was fine and didn't need any sort of reassurance, he nodded and turned back to his game.
"Maybe if you had listened to me-" He began, but I just waved a hand dismissively.
"Whatever. What's done is done, and now no one is going to mess with us so we're safe. And we don't have her in our midst. It's a win win no matter how you look at it." I said, already sick of the subject. The sooner we forgot about it, the better. BEN tossed the controller sideways. I was paying no attention whatsoever, so it hit me on the side of my face. Right where Astrid had hit me back when I tried to kill her.
Damn, that felt like forever ago...
"Why the fuck did you throw that at me?" I said defensively and watched as BEN pulled out a laptop from who-knows-where and began to type on it, apparently no longer interested in the game. I took that as an invitation to get Link killed off in the most extravagant ways possible.
We spent a few moments in silence, before BEN whistled in appreciation and nudged my side. "Check it out." He said, turning the computer towards me. I glanced at the computer and saw that he was...
"Seriously? Cleverbot again?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"Do you want to go kill someone or not?" BEN asked defensively, turning the computer back towards him. I was never one to let anything get between a kill and myself, so I just shrugged and put the game on pause, turning to BEN and his computer.
Normally, the funnest victims were those that walked right into it. The ones that knew who BEN was, yet didn't seem to care. So naturally, when we saw one of the users repeatedly sending the message 'BEN' while Cleverbot tried to maintain the conversation, that was the one we chose.
Our conversation was something like:
User (our lovely victim): BEN
Cleverbot (us): Well hello there~
User: BEN?
Cleverbot: The one and only, how may I help you?
User: It's Astrid.
At this point in the conversation, BEN and I glanced at each other and tried to make sense of it. I wanted to just kill the connection and try out another user, but BEN decided he wanted to know whatever she wanted to tell us. According to my logic, it had been true and she had been a spy. There was no other way she would be using a computer if that wasn't the case.
Cleverbot: What do you want?
User: I don't have much time, and it's a really long story, but there will be an attack tonight at the mansion. You have to trust me.
"It's a trick, she's trying to distract us, or scare us, maybe it's a threat." I said, but BEN didn't really pay attention.
Cleverbot: What kind of attack?
User: I don't know. It's big, and meant to wipe out all of you. I think it was a bomb.
Cleverbot: How do you know this?
User: Turns out Jeff was half right.
Cleverbot: You were a spy?
User: No. My mother was. And I was feeding her all the information.
"Oh crap." BEN muttered, leaning back on his chair. I stared at the screen, trying to make sense of the words. When she put it like that, it made a lot of sense. Her mother had been the one to rat us out when we were going to the house. Astrid hadn't lied. How could I have been so stupid?
User: BEN?
Cleverbot: Yeah?
User: Skylar?
Cleverbot: He's fine.
"What do you mean he's fine?" I asked, turning to BEN. "Don't lie to her like that, we've caused her enough pain as it is."
"It's not a lie, I spared him. He was no real threat, plus, we spoke for a while." BEN replied, raising his hands in surrender.
User: Thank you.
Cleverbot: Are you safe?
User: Yes.
At this point, I took the computer from BEN and typed my responses.
Cleverbot: Why should we trust you?
User: Jeff.
Not a question, just a statement.
Cleverbot: Why should we trust you?
User: Why else would I be telling you this? I'm on your side here.
Cleverbot: Why?
User: Look, heed my warning. If you want to die, then go ahead and stay in the mansion unguarded. But at least tell Slenderman.
Cleverbot: Traitor.
User: The only traitor here is you.
User has logged off.
"We need to tell Slendy." BEN said after a moment of silence.
"I don't trust her... But I agree." I finally said, turning away from the computer.
