Slowly Settling Down

~~~Astrid's POV~~~
I sat in the living room, staring at the dark TV screen.  My mother had left without even bothering to explain...  Well, anything.  Why she helped these people, how she knew them, why she was leaving me here with them.
I just wanted to go home, I wanted to be stuck in a stupid party, I wanted to watch movies until I passed out in the couch, I wanted to go to school, to have a normal life.
No.
To have my normal life.
God knows I had wished endless times for a different life.  A life in which I was less awkward, in which I had better social skills.  A life in which I was smarter, more organized, a life in which I was better.  A better friend, a better student, a better daughter, just a better person altogether.
But it was my life, and I had grown accustomed to it.
Now, I was in a mansion with a minimum of two killers, about five hundred other freaks, and a tall humanoid creature that had tendrils protruding from his back, staring at a TV while it was very clearly off.  I had injuries all over my body, and they hurt.
"You know, the TV works better once you turn it on."  A voice to my right said.
I turned my head slowly to spot the male closely resembling Link.  He had the green clothing, the pointy ears, but the thing that threw me off was the eyes.  At first glance they looked normal, but if I stared at them long enough, I could see blood dripping from them.  I could see the black eyes, the red pupils.  He seemed to have a sort of glamour over them to keep that hidden though.
"I'm Astrid."  I immediately said, knowing to introduce myself.  He smirked and walked over to the TV.
"I know, I helped bring you here.  Plus, Slenderman introduced you.  I'm BEN.  Now, since you seem so exceptionally bored, I need to work some magic.  How do you feel about gaming?"  He asked, starting up a console.
"Well..."  I pretended to ponder it.  Honestly, the thought of gaming was strangely soothing.  It was like something was still normal.  "I think, I'd very much love to give it a go."
"Hell yeah, that's the spirit.  Here."  He passed me a controller.  I grabbed it and waited as he started up the game.  He sat down beside me on the couch, leaving a space between us.  Someone else walked in.  BEN looked up and grinned.  "Come right here, we're going to have fun."  He told the person, patting the couch.
The new person was also a young male.  He had goggles and a mouth guard, two hatchets hung at his sides.  He also seemed to be having constant little tics and twitches.  He looked at me and did a little wave.
"Hi, I'm T-toby.  Nice t-t-to meet you."  He said, stuttering.  I couldn't help but smile.
"I'm Astrid.  Though you probably knew that."  I said, looking at the TV.
"Buckle up, new girl.  I want you in tears by the evening."  BEN said, passing Toby a controller.
~~~

BEN and I were still sitting at the couch by the time the sun set.  Jeff had joined at some point, and Toby had left.  I was making BEN proud, currently on a winning streak.  Of course, he gave me a run for my money, but I was still ahead.

Until he decided he'd had enough.

"No, no, no.  BEN don't you fucking dare, I swear.  No, NO!  ARGH, YOU CHEATED!"  I threw the controller at BEN, who merely cackled like a madman.

He thought he was sly, but I saw the glitch.  He thought I didn't know, but I saw it.  After Jeff told me that practically anything electronic was BEN's domain, I had been paying very close attention to him and the game.  I hadn't seen anything wrong.

Until now.

"You cheated!"  I screamed as he grabbed my controller.

"My apologies that you lack the simple perception to see the simple truth.  I'm just better than you."  He said, smirking.

"Oh no you didn't."  I growled, jumping over Jeff to reach BEN.  Once I reached him, I clasped my hands around his neck and playfully pretended to choke him.

"Okay, okay, children.  Stop.  Astrid, you can't kill BEN just because he won."  Jeff said, tugging me away from my target.

"Jeff."  BEN said in all seriousness, which caused me to release him.  "You stabbed me for winning a game."  He said. Which caused me to laugh.

"You stabbed him?  What a sore loser."  I said.  Jeff scowled, and if I didn't know better, I would say he was trying not to stab me.

"Says the girl who just attempted to choke him to death."  Jeff replied, which caused me to scowl.

"It was a joke!"  I said, retreating to my side of the couch.

"Yeah, well-" Jeff began, but he was interrupted by BEN who cleared his throat loudly.

"DINNER TIME!"  BEN shouted effectively catching our attention.  Jeff just stalked off into the dinning room, BEN and I walked after him.  He fell into step beside me and grinned.  "I won."

"You cheated!"  I countered, poking him in the ribs.  We sat at the table, waiting for dinner.  Soon enough, all the chairs were occupied and the table was full of food.

Right as I was about to eat, Slenderman appeared.

Hello.  As many of you know, Astrid will be staying with us the next few days.  I have decided where she shall sleep, though I am reluctant.  Since Jeffrey stabbed his last roommate, there's an empty bed in his room, which shall shortly be occupied by Astrid.  Remember that she is under my protection, harming her will result in punishment.

There was a moment of silence.

Is that understood?

Everyone nodded.  Slenderman then teleported away.  Jeff got up from the table and left, clearly angry.  Everyone resumed eating.  I decided to give him some time before going to my new shared room.
