Anastasia's POV
For the past few months, Nathan and I are getting closer. My mom already meets his family. Lisa is no longer in the picture. I'm blissfully happy.
My mom and I were invited to Mrs. Smith's birthday a few months ago. At the end of the party, Nathan proposed. I said yes.
Everything feels right. Nathan wants to get married immediately. Her mom and my mom asked for 1 year of preparation. He asked for 3 months. Finally, everybody agreed in 6 months' preparation. Nathan wants to get married on the same date as our first encounter. I agree. 31 December 2019 is our wedding date.
I want a small wedding reception where we don't have to entertain many guests. But I also understand that with Nathan's family it's impossible. He is the heir of The Smith.
Many people are talking about us. Every gossip account on Instagram posted pictures of us. They're speculating about our relationship because, according to them, my family is so poor. We weren't actually poor but my parents weren't like Nathan's. My parents have enough money to raise me and pay my tuition until I was finished high school. And then I got a scholarship for my medical school.
My father passed away when I was in senior high school because of a car accident. I have no siblings only one cousin from my father's side.
Gossip tv show even invites Lisa to talk. She's talking about how heartbroken she is. People are talking about my motives with Nathan. I make sure not to listen to any of that garbage because it will only hurt me. The comments on Instagram are hurtful so I try my best not to open my social media or see gossip shows.
Nathan gives no limit for our wedding. I disagree but end up lost. His mother orders the best of the best for this wedding. I have my dream gown. Everything is so beautiful. I can't expect anything better

My new life as Mrs. Smith is not always easy. But I'm lucky to have Nathan. He loves all of my quirks. He can understand my job. Not many guys can do that. I have work shifts. Sometimes I can spend days at the hospital. I always pick up my phone when the hospital call, no matter how late or early it is.
Sometimes I don't have time to reply to his text. There are times when I'm too tired to do anything when I have off day. All I do is stay in the house. He understands how I love my job so he supports me.
Some people treat me differently now. Suddenly everybody knows me and wants to be my best friend. I like that. I just hope it's genuine.
Nathan and I agree not to delay having children. We've been eager to achieve that. Unfortunately, the stress that I get is not helping. My menstruation is not regular but Nathan is very understanding.
3 months later
Being a newlywed doesn't mean I forget my mom. I still visit her every time I got a chance. I asked her to move in with us but she wanted to stay in the place where she has her memory with my father. I understand that. That's why sometimes I come there or even sleep there with Nathan or she comes to our place to spend the night.
Just like today, I'm going to spend the night at her home with Nathan. Since Nathan still has a meeting, I come first to her place. He's going to come after his meeting done.
When I arrive, I knock the door but she's not answering so I open the door with my key. I find mom is sleeping with a smile while holding our family picture. It's a picture of my 10th birthday. I was so happy in that picture. My father and mother looked so proud of me.
After I take a good look at my mom, I realize something.
"No. Mom, mom." I try to wake her up, I shake her body but no response.
"Mom, please, don't scare me like this. MOM!" I shout.
I try to find a pulse but I find none. I call 911 and do CPR for I don't know how long.
When the paramedics come, they have to force me to stop. As a doctor, I know that there's nothing else I can do. But as a daughter, I keep hoping for a miracle.
I cry and cry and cry. Polices come. Everybody tries to calm me down and talk to me. But I feel broken. She was my rock. Somebody must have called Nathan because suddenly he's here.
"Baby," He whispers.
He cradles me into his lap and hugs me. I keep crying. Nathan's family cone not long after that. I just cry. I can't talk. Nathan's family helps to handle everything. At first, they will prepare a funeral and she will be buried somewhere near. But I remember something.
"She wanted to be cremated just like my father. She told me that after the cremation, to put half of her ashes in the same urn with my father's and scatter the other half in our favorite beach. Just like what we did to my father's," I tell Nathan.
"Okay, Ana. We'll fulfill her wishes."
My family comes to see my mom for the last time. I don't have a big family. Just some uncles aunts and cousins. My closest cousin, Camila, comes from I don't know where. Camila lives nomads because her psycho ex-boyfriend hunts her down. He beat her so she ran away. She came to my wedding but only stayed for 3 days. I know how hard it is for her to come here but she's very close to my mom. We grew up together.
I feel numb. It feels unreal. Mom was here and then suddenly she left me. We had plans. When I have a child later, Mom is supposed to help me. Her birthday is next month. We're going to celebrate it together.
She's gone. My mom is gone. Goodbye, Mom.
