Storms

There's always lightning before thunder,
The calm before the storm,
The fight before forgiveness.

The breath before the words,
I hope you know,
Before the rain,
It was a clear day.

The storm came through and swept you away,
It took your eyes,
The beauty became pain,
They lost their sight.

It took your heart,
The beats became breaks,
It lost its love.

It took your ears,
The sound became silent,
They lost the ability to hear.

It took your mind,
The thoughts turned to nothing,
You lost the ability to think.

The storm came in,
I lost you to it,
I couldn't feel your soul to mine,
Where did the storm take you.

Was there acid in the rain?
Did the smell lure you away?
Did you chase rainbows,
Hoping to find me in the pot of gold?

The clouds rolled in and struck you down,
They pushed you into the earth,
Made you grow differently,
Forcing you to leave.

Or was it me?

I brought the storm by asking you to love me in a way you couldn't,
I turned away from you when I thought you didn't care,
I pushed you away,
The same way you did me when I was overbearing.

I flashed like lightning,
Off and on,
Never knowing how to act,
My emotions like a bolt,
Striking anything that hurt me.

I roared like thunder,
Loud and unreasonable,
Always making a scene,
I couldn't control my volume when I was upset.

My tears fell like the rain,
Wild and erratic,
An overwhelming lack of drains to rid of the water.
I formed puddles on your t-shirt.

I hoped the storm would be over soon but it lasted for hours,
Days turned to weeks,
Weeks to months,
Months to years.

I wish the storm didn't push you away,
I wish you could have helped me over come my insecurities,
I wish this didn't drive us apart,
I hope you find that rainbow.

I hope I'm at the end of it when you do,
But I also hope you find someone who fits you,
Someone as beautiful as the rainbow after my storm.
