"So your caspian." I stated blatantly ,walking up beside the brunette.
"Yes." He answered curtly, "And you are? I do not recognize you from the stories."
I furrowed my eyebrows and shook my head. "No. I uh-I'm their friend. "I pointed ahead to the Pevensie children. "I just happened to be with them when they... well, arrived." I swept my arm in front of me dramatically.
He chuckled deeply before something ahead of us caught his eye, causing him to shift his gaze down.
"Wh-"I started to ask.
"Maggie. Walk with me." It came out more of a command. Usually if a boy talked to me like that I would've done just the opposite and made a smart comment, but the edge in Peters voice was enough to shut me up. I mumbled goodbye to Caspian and took the place next to Peter, falling slightly behind the group of Narnians.
"How are you holding up. " He asked in a much nicer tone, the caring one I had always know.
"What do you mean?"
He laughed. "You just saw about fifteen Centaurs, four Minotaurs, and about three dozen other talking animals for the first time."
I raised my eyebrows. "I hadn't even really thought about it. wow!"
He laughed and pulled me into a quick side hug. "You never seize to amaze me."
I grinned inwardly and shrugged his arm off. "What would your people say if they saw you hugging an outsider? And a lady outsider at that! They would automatically label me a harlet!" I slapped a hand over my eyes. "No that-that just won't do." I walked a little further and smiled to myself upon hearing Peters constant laughter.
"They would probably just assume I've run off and got married."
I stopped. "I hardly think they would assume I was your wife."
He stopped and looked at me. "And why not?" He sounded insulted.
"I just didn't know I looked worthy to be with someone like you."
My face grew red as i processed the words that had spilled from lips. "I mean a king. Someone who was a king." I glanced at him and couldn't help but smile at the grin on his face.
"Well I think your gorgeous. Way more beautiful than most of the maenads."
"Maenads?" I asked.
"Yes. There a type of Nymph. Nymphs are spirits, but not like a ghost. There are many types of nymphs and the maenads happen to be exquisitely beautiful but reckless. Their quite wild and have no problem luring men away from their group."
I nodded slowly. "Most of?"
He chuckled. "Again.. your not even phased by the whole mythical creature thing."
I smiled and looked up. "You know we're pretty far away from them." I motioned toward the group.
"Mhm." He hummed, cocking his head to the side, and impish grin gracing his smooth features. "I just mean I don't want to get lost. "
He stopped walking completely. "You think I don't know my way around my kingdom?"
"Excuse me Oh high and mighty one, but I was under the impression that your 'kingdom' was over looking the sea. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see one little drop of water around here."
He took a step towards me. "My castle was overlooking the sea, I'm high king throughout all of Narnia. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but this-what were surrounded by- is considered part of Narnia. "
I smirked, stepping closer. "Don't you need a throne to be a king. "
"Don't you need a proper attitude to be a lady." He took another step forward.
"If I were lady like, which I'm not, I would certainly agree." I took a final step towards him, now noticing the close proximity we were in to each other. He must've noticed too, because within seconds of my last step the smirk dropped off his face.
"You have some lady like qualities. " He raised a hand and skimmed his thumb across my cheek, just under my eye, brushing dirt away.
"Like what." I chocked out.
"Like..."
"Peter!" The sound of Susan's voice echoed through the dense wood, sending us both flying apart. "Maggie! There you two are! What happened? Is anything the matter?"
I forced myself to keep my eyes on Susan as Peter cleared his throat. "No no. Mags just had some questions about the creatures and didn't want to accidentally insult anyone. "
"Understandable." She agreed, looking from me to Peter. "Are sure that's all? Both of you look flushed." She sent a smirk in my direction.
"I'm going to talk to Caspian. See if he has any information Trumpkin didn't have." Our eyes me briefly as he brushed his arm against mine while walking by.
As soon as he was a good enough difference away Susan laughed. I rolled my eyes and stomped past her. "Oh, go talk to your precious Prince."
