I'd been shaking ever since Id woken up this morning. Tonight, all of the Narnians and the Pevensies, except Lucy, would be going to raid the Telemarine castle. Everyone was nervous, a little jumpy, that was a given, but no on showed it. I found peace in this grassy cliff thing on top of the Howe and seemed to be visiting it a lot.

"I knew I'd fine you here. " A smooth voice called out. I knew who it was before I even turned around.

"Hi Edmund. "

He smiled and sat down beside me. "So. Tonight's the night."

"How can you be so nonchalant about it?" I asked, earning a shrug.

"I don't know. Maybe because I've been in battle before."

I nodded and twisted a blade of grass around my finger.

"I was the best swordsman of Narnias golden age. Some may say I still hold that title."

I laughed and rolled my eyes. "What was Peter? Your runner up."

His eyes went cold suddenly. "Why do you always bring him up?"

I was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"I just don't get why every conversation anyone has that involves you comes around to Peter."

"I couldn't tell you." I replied honestly.

He looked guilty for minute. "I'm sorry."

I shook my head. "I guess that's just what happens when to people are - uh destined to be-to... court." I stuttered and laughed.

He leaned away from me. "Your courting him? Since when!"

I met his eyes briefly, frightened. "U-uh just before that meeting yesterday."

His eyes were wild and he jumped to his feet. "How could you!"

"W-wha- i"

Im your best friend! Your MY best friend! I come out here to tell you how I feel seeing as I could die tonight and you tell me your with my brother!"

I stood slowly and took a step back. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize-but Edmund we're just what you said. Friends. That's all we ever were. I'm sorry but I don't feel that way about you. I thought you knew I liked Peter? You were the one always joking about it."

He groaned. "Yes! Joking! I didn't think he would actually go for you!"

My eyes widened. "What does that mean?"

"Well come on. He is pretty far out of your league."

I gasped. "Oh and I'm not out of yours?"

He looked deadly. "Forget it." And with that he stormed past me, roughly hitting my shoulder with his as went.
