The New Recruit

Felix was headed to Penny's house.

He didn't know why, but Penny had messaged him telling him to. He assumed it was something about his brother.

After last leaving there, he had gone to his house, hoping Cindy wouldn't return. Teddy, however, had not come home.

He was worried about him.

Not a lot, of course, he wasn't mentally capable of that. Still, it was hard not to be a little, tiny bit concerned.

He opened the door to...

Nothing.

Confused, he looked around. He found a note on the table, in Penny's handwriting.

Head to the basement.

Weird.

He went down the stairs to the basement to be greeted with total blackness. Well, not total, there was one lightbulb, hanging from the ceiling like in some kind of evil lair.

He had decided it had to have been some weird prank and turned to head back upstairs when he heard...

"Felix Huxley."

He turned back around, bewildered. He knew the voice, but was too paranoid to recognize it.

Once the voice had verified he was paying attention, it continued. "You have been chosen to join us. We hope you will accept this offer."

He tried to convince himself he wasn't scared. Huxleys feared nothing. He stood up straight. "Who are you?"

"Who are we?"

Another voice came up, this one female, with a Mexican accent.

"We are broken rules."

Another voice, male with a slight British accent. He definitely recognized this one.

"We are disobeyed customs."

The first voice again, a male, American accent.

"We..."

He stepped forward into the dim light, to reveal a familiar, light skinned, brown haired, brown eyed teenager.

"are the Order of Chaos."

"What the hell are you all doing?"

Kid groaned. "It's no fun if you don't play along!"

"Is this just some elaborate make-believe? You had me genuinely worried!"

Kid chuckled. "This is no make-believe, my friend. This is real."

Jerome, stepping into the light, continued. "And you gotta join us."

Kid nodded. "You see, with all the years we've attended school in this district, I've noticed one thing: all the principals have been evil. Every. Last. One. So it's not that far of a stretch to say that Mr. Norwood might be planning something. Something else I know is that this district has a certain ally. An ally that goes by the name of Applesoft." He took a step closer, pointing to Felix's chest. "And that's where you come in. Nobody in this school has more info on the inner workings of Applesoft than their own favorite child! Thus, we would like you to join us."

Felix cocked an eyebrow.

Kid continued. "In return, we offer you protection from your psychobitch girlfriend."

"Deal."

Kid turned around to talk to someone behind him. "See, I told you death threats were unnecessary!"

"They may have been unnecessary, but Nugget would have preferred his ideas be included."

"Don't worry, Nugget, you'll get your chance."

He turned back to Felix. "Now then, let the tour begin!"
