"Hmmmyyyeah. This needs to change."

"What needs to change?" asked Felix, confused, as Ozzy continued to look him up and down.

"Just..." he gestured vaguely at Felix, "this. Everything about you just screams 'rich kid here, huge target.' We need to change that."

He guessed that made sense.

As Ozzy was giving him some tutorials on looking unnoticeable, which included a less upright "I'm better than you" posture, more normal clothing, and walking alongside Ted less, he was also explaining just how he knew all this. The tales of being bullied about his high-pitched voice and OCD were saddening. Felix guessed he just needed to vent. Still, it was upsetting to hear.

"You wanna avoid attracting any attention? That's how ya do it."

"Are... are you okay?"

Ozzy faltered. "What do you mean, am I okay?"

"You sounded upset. I can't relate to you personally, that's never happened to me, but it seems like it sucks."

"Yeah, it really does."

"Do.. you.. wanna..... talk about it?" Felix was not good with this whole "empathy" thing.

Ozzy's expression brightened, just a little. "Yeah."

"I thought you were going with Carla?"

Kid smiled. "Yeah, but Carla already has Penny. I didn't want you to have to deal with your parents' shittiness alone. Besides, their thing is tomorrow."

Ted looked down. "It's fine, really."

"I also just kinda wanted to hang out with you. You're fun to be around!"

He looked up. "Really?"

Kid laughed. "Dude, you're like, the best guy in the whole Order."

Goddamnit, now Ted was blushing!

If Kid noticed, he didn't say anything. He probably didn't want to embarrass Ted.

That was nice.

He was nice.

"Now c'mon, let's get this party started!"

The two headed down to the basement to try and gather information about Applesoft.

Which meant that Ted now had some rational panic to go along with his gay panic.

They walked slowly, trying not to make a sound, when-

"So you simply need a child for testing purposes? I can supply you with that, for a price."

"What price, exactly?"

"Hmm, I'd say... 100 grand?"

"That's... certainly cheap for a literal human being."

"He's not exactly useful to us."

There was a chuckle. "As stone-hearted as ever, eh, Huxley? I should have the money by next month. Let's meet back up then, hm?"

"I look forward to it."

Oh.

They heard footsteps coming near them. Ted grabbed Kid's hand. "We have to go."

They made a run for it. Once they had made it safely outside without attracting any unwanted attention, they freaked out.

"That was Mr. Norwood, I recognized his voice! But who was he talking to?"

After a few moments, Ted answered. "That... was my father."
