One by one, each loser took turns spitting into the water from the top of the cliff. "Huh, I think I beat you Eds." Nancy shrugged her shoulder. Eddie groaned at the nickname.
"Nance wins!" Richie announced.
"She won? Did you see my loogie? It went the furthest." Eddie complained.
"It's about distance!"
"Mass. It's always been about mass."
"What is mass?!"
"It doesn't matter how far it goes, it's how cool it looks. And it's green or it's white." Eddie explained.
"Alright. Who's first?" Bill asked. Before anyone could even answer, Nancy took the opportunity and jumped, hearing Richie yell out profanities about how badass she looked. As Nancy resurfaced from the water, she saw Beverly jumping.
"Holy shit, that was awesome!" Beverly swam towardd Nancy. "C'mon!" She shouted at the rest of the losers.
"It usually takes a few seconds before they get the balls to do it." Nancy laughed. Once everyone had jumped, Nancy and Beverly splashed their faces with water and soon it turned into a water fight. She wished it could be like this every day, but it wasn't. Her negative thoughts were cut off by Richie splashing her face with water.
"Trashmouth!" She yelled at Richie and chased him.
Beverly got on top of Bill's shoulders while Richie got on top of Ben's. They wrestled until Richie knocked beverly off of bill shoulders. Stan, Nancy and Eddie raced each other, Eddie winning.
Soon, Ben and Richie had crashed their swim race and splashed each other in the face."Ah fuck. It just touched my foot right here!" Richie said. Each of them went underwater to try to identify what touched Richie's foot.
"Oh my god! We're gonna die!" Nancy dramatically tossed herself onto Stan.
"It's a turtle!"
Minutes later, Nancy and Beverly got out of the water to sun bathe and it was the best choice Nancy had made. She didn't even notice when her friends decided to join them. She could feel the stares and she was pretty sure that Beverly felt them too. A sudden move from Beverly and the boys quickly turned away as if they weren't staring at them a few seconds ago.
"Wow, many years of knowing me and they act like they've never seen a girl." Nancy leaned her head on her palm. Beverly chuckled at her comment.
"News flash, Ben. School's out for summa!" Richie said in a horrible accent as he went through Ben's backpack.
"Oh that? That's not school stuff." Ben pointed out. Richie got out a postcard from Ben's backpack and turned it over to see some writing.
"Who sent you this?" Richie asked.
"No one!" Ben took the postcard away from Richie.
Richie then went back into Ben's backpack and took out a blue folder and opened it. "What's with the history project?"
"Oh, well when I first moved here, I didn't really have anyone to hang out with. So I just started spending time at the library." He admitted as Richie passed the folder to Bill.
"You went to the library? On purpose?" Richie asked disgusted by the idea of spending time at the library.
Beverly stood up and walked to Bill. "I wanna see."
"What's the black spot?" Stan asked.
"Sounds Interesting." Nancy sat beside Stan.
"The black spot was a nightclub that was burned down years ago by that racist cult."
"I stand corrected." Nancy commented.
"The what?"
"Don't you watch Geraldo?"
"Y-y-your hair..." Bill said to beverly but he couldn't find the words to explain. She just stared at him until Ben spoke.
"Your hair looks beautiful, Beverly." He smiled at her.
"Oh. Right. Thanks." Beverly blushed.
Nancy tried her hardest not to laugh at the awkwardness. But she knew that Bill also was crushing on Beverly. She promised to herself that she wouldn't expose neither friends feelings towards the red head. "Here. Pass it." Richie extended his arm out to Bill.
Bill gave the folder to Richie. "Why is it all murders and missing kids?" Richie wondered as he flipped through the pages.
"Derry's not like any town I've ever been in before. They did a study once. .and it turns out people die or disappear six times the national average." Ben explained.
"You read that?" Beverly asked.
"That's just grown ups. Kids are worse. Way, way worse." Ben said. "I've got more stuff if you wanna see it."
Eddie shook his head frightened by what ben had said. Everyone decided against eddie and followed ben to his house. Ben approached his house and dropped his bike onto the grass, the rest of them following his actions. He ran inside of his room and cleaned up a bit before his new friends saw it.
Nancy stood by Bill as she saw Ben's room covered in printed papers. She slowly walked around the room, examining each paper. "Woah, woah, woah, wow!" Richie let out a breath at the sight of Ben's room.
"Cool, huh?" Ben smiled.
"No, no. Nothing cool." Richie replied.
"Hey, dumbass, I found something cool." Nancy pointed at one of the papers. "Wait, it uses big words. Nevermind."
"What's that?" Stan pointed at another paper.
"That? That's the charter for Derry township." Ben said.
"Nerd alert." Richie chuckled as he adjusted his glasses.
"No, actually, it's really interesting. Derry started as a beaver trapping camp." Ben continued.
"Still is. Am I right boys?" Richie joked and raised his hand to get a high five but no one gave him one.
"Ninety one people signed that charter that made derry. But later that winter, they all dissapeared without a trace."
"The entire camp?" Eddie asked.
"There were rumors of indians . . . but no sign of an attack. Everybody thought it was a plague or something. But it's like one day everybody woke up and left. The only clue was a trail of bloody clothes leading to the well-house." Ben explained more.
"Strange." Nancy whispered.
"Jesus. We can get derry on 'unsolved mysteries'." Richie commented.
"Yeah, then you'd have your fifteen minutes of fame." Nancy teased as she continued to read from the papers.
"Where was the well-house?" Bill asked ben.
"I don't know. Somewhere in town I guess. Why?"
Bill looked over at Ben's wall. "Nothing."
