The Scout
'Please Call Home'
Chapter - 11 / by; mike hurley'It was a sound smaller than a honeybees heartbeat'
Amy was speechless as Ty led her through the 3 story mountain cabin. An elderly & wealthy Marine had donated it to the Scouts and left funds to have it literally buried in the hill, and retrofitted with systems which concealed it's every aspect. It was a 5300 sq ft self contained safe house that could sleep 12 comfortably, more if necessary. The basement pantry stored enough provisions for 12 people for 12 months. A filtration system eliminated smoke from the 3 fireplaces and furnace, & hot water heaters. A well fed a 1400 gallon water tank & septic systems disposed of waste. Even when fully occupied the home was undetectable by land or air. Two underground generators supplied power.
She walked through the large kitchen & attached great room, & dining room with a long solid oak table that sat 18. An exercise room, laundry room, theater room, & sunken family room. The basement contained a large workshop & hobby / craft room, a 'garage' with 2 snowmobiles and 4x4 ATV's. 4 bedrooms on the 2nd story which also contained a tv room, study with adjacent small library with 1300 titles, and a command room where 27 outside cameras could be viewed and a myriad of other sensors. 2 drones could be launched from an 'attic'. 2 additional bunk rooms each slept 6.
Amy climbed the circular staircase to the 800 sq feet master suite. She peeked into the bathroom & shower and sighed. She motioned for Ty to join her. Ty flipped on the lights in the simulated windows views. It was a sunny day 'outside'. They kissed and talked and shared dreams. Ty could see how relaxed Amy was, it made him so happy!! She had talked about a hot shower for days, so he turned on the water, set out clean towels, and pointed to his dresser & told Amy she could find something to wear while their clothes were washing. Ty said he had to run tests on all the systems since the house had been empty for over a month.
Enjoy your shower Amy, there's plenty of hot water, and dig through the medicine cabinet & bathroom drawers if you need something.
Ty.......wait, Amy wrapped her arms around his neck & kissed him & said; thank you!!
He smiled and closed the bedroom door. Amy was so excited to finally get a real shower & wash her hair. But first she looked around Ty's bedroom. A full size Canadian Maple Leaf adorned one wall with lots of photos on the other 3. But Amy walked toward his nightstand and sat on the bed. She was mesmerized by what had to be Ty's most precious procession. It was an 8x10 wedding photo & Jennifer was beautiful standing next to Ty. Her dress was simple but so elegant. He stood straight as an arrow & they looked at each other, sharing a joyous moment in time that would soon just be a memory. Amy's eyes filled with tears as she realized how much they loved each other. She gently touched the photo as if wanting to know that moment and perhaps be a friend to Jen. Amy stood and looked at Jen in the photo & made a promise that she would love and protect Ty and make him happy until the day she died. Amy, like her grandfather, took her promises seriously. Finally she whispered; Jen, I promise you I will love him with all my heart!!Their children, Margaret (Molly), John, Lyndy, Jackson, Jennifer, Marion, Clinton, and Lois, would all agree no woman ever loved a man more than their mother, Amy, loved their father, Tyler.
She stepped into the shower, closed the door & sighed. Amy enjoyed the hot water & washed away months of being homesick, lonely, hungry, cold, sore, and tired. One man, a Canadian Marine changed all that for her.
She felt safe enough now to briefly think about her experience in the Rebel Camp. Multiple men having sex with her, probably pregnant and living the rugged & thankless life of a servant. Since Ty rescued her, all that was gone. A distant nightmare. Now she had a man she soon hoped to sleep with. Being intimate with him, was Amy's choice and no one else's. She had never loved a man, like she loved Ty. He was so much more of a man than any she had dated before. She began washing her hair, and totally relaxing, she even sang a song her grandmother taught her as a child. She added a lyric and sang of Amy's joy when she first met Ty...........
........."at your service Ma'am"!!
