The Scout
Chapter 46
'Blood Brothers'
Written by: Mike HurleyThe wind roared and trees snapped all around them. Giant elm trees toppled over and uprooted. A tornado formed and dove into their valley, sucking & swallowing everything like a monstrous roaring vacuum cleaner. Yet somehow the monstrosity seemed alive......
The horses were terrified & tried to run.
Even War Horses have their limits.
Amy dropped on top of the sword to protect it; she had no real idea of the Authority it carried. It did not need Amy's protection, yet it took note of the young woman's care.
Amy knew whatever mysteries the sword contained, it scared their enemy to their bones. Amy felt dozens of hideous eyes on her, so she grabbed the sword by its handle, rolled it several times & thrust it up into Robin's hands. Like a quarterback taking the snap. Robin stood and thrust the sword up into the sky. Its light penetrated everything; trees, rocks, boulders, and mountains. Its light hit the moon and out the other side.
The sword's light had nothing to do with the light from the sun and stars. It traveled from one end of the universe to the other in a billionth of an instant.
The light roared around them with a promise of instant death to any who challenged it.The angry tornado sucked in the light and groaned like a dying dragon; In milliseconds it dropped everything from its belly and was vaporized. Amy slowly stood as screams swirled all around them. Blood-curdling screams at Death's door. Suddenly the winds stopped and massive broken trees stood tall and straight again........like nothing ever happened. An unknown force pushed uprooted & dying trees back into their holes. Crickets played their violins and frogs croaked from a nearby stream......like nothing ever happened.
Even Amy's long blond hair was perfectly combed & every hair was in place. Not a single split end. A gash on her hand had perfectly healed. And her wedding ring diamond shone like a star. She stared at Robin's sword in awe.
Amy's eyes were open and unharmed,
Her fingertips glowed from within.
She looked at Robin with a questioning stare.Darkness is as light. Robin said. My sword was angry tonight and taught a lesson to those mocking the One who owns it. They will not bother us again.
Robin stood and thrust the spiritual weapon high into the air. Instantly a peace descended over the little valley.
It pierced the darkness, and everything in it, the spiritual enemy bowed their heads in awe and crawled away, so terrified they could not speak.Amy stared at her fingertips. They glowed with a white light; pure and bright. Robin simply smiled and said.......the sword knows you're with me, it protects you too.
Amy stared at Robin, then sat on the ground and realized beams of light shone from her blue eyes, like dual flashlights.
Are they gone? Amy asked. Robin shook her head yes and replied........ they know who owns this sword, whose light it contains, and they tremble in fear. Don't be afraid Amy, they can't harm us.
Amy stood and looked around; I'm sorry I was angry Robin. I had no right to go off at you like that. I'm going to hike up the to the ridge & stand guard. I'll be back at 2:00, ok??
Sounds good Amy, and thanks for being my friend! The moment I met you, Amy, I was less scared. You emit a calm confidence that I admire.
You're like the big sister I never had.
Did you know that?? Robin asked Amy with admiring eyes.Amy smiled and softly said; I may appear confident......but I'll be so happy to find our boys. I sleep soundly when Ty holds me. Out here, even with your powerful sword that controls the universe, I'm always on edge. We're a long day travel to the safe house, we should arrive tomorrow night.
