The Scout
Chapter  45
'Prepare to be boarded'!!
By; Mike Hurley

Uhhhhh!!  Robin slammed into her body; seemingly at Mach-2.  She groaned & opened her eyes.  She lay on her back, a blanket covered her. Her head rested on Amy's spare pair of jeans. Her right hand still tightly gripped her sword.

She looked around & saw their camouflaged tent all set up; it was a hot day. But the sun was tired & getting ready for bed.

Amy??  Robin softly spoke as she sat up.
Where are you Amy.
The canteens were gone, Robin figured her friend went off after water.
She giggled as a huge tongue sloshed her face with horse saliva. She reached up and embraced Liberty's massive head in her hands.

I love you!!  Robin said to the loyal war horse.
Amy told you to stand guard over me, didn't she??
Robin stood & steadied herself against Liberty.

She saw Riley grazing a few feet away, his eyes, nose, and ears always aware; always on guard.

War horses were more intelligent than the thoughtful poodle. Their stamina left the shepherd dogs in the dust.  They were more loyal and protective than the crazily brave peekenese.
And they were very, very valuable.
Probably the most valuable resource in a Bilatteral unit.

Robert Kinder had been on a roller coaster; his head was still spinning. His thoughts were blueberries in a smoothie blender.
His heart a swirl of young emotions.  His young
mind jumping from one topic to another, like a hamster on a wheel, or the words of this author in the next 50 or so paragraphs......

He sat on his tiny back porch & looked down the trail for her.
His new girlfriend Anne.
She was just 16, but already so pretty; her young figure.........a woman.

They had met in citizen class, just 2 weeks ago. Neither had a family, but both were convinced their young love was strong enough to last a lifetime.  His strong hands had already squeezed & enjoyed her breasts.
Her soft hands had explored the hardness of his muscular chest & solid abs.
But it was their pheromones that drew them together.  They loved being with each other; she had baked his favorite pie 3 times.
They had slept together twice, but nothing had happened. She wasn't ready; he was a gentleman his father would have been proud of.  He held doors for her, let her take the first bite of an ice cream cone at their fav frozen dessert shop......'The Frozen Roosevelt'.
They could talk and laugh and walk on the base's miles of hiking trails for hours.

Secretly Anne wanted to marry him, she was ready to be a wife.  Maybe a mom too.
Both had no family & housing was always an issue.  But if Anne & Robert were married, they could live anywhere on the base they wanted.

She was the only ray of sunshine in Robert's young life.  He gave her a reason to get out of bed in the morning.  After her daily shift at
'Burgers & Bombs' she'd run almost 2 miles up to his place. Anne loved Robert like there was no tomorrow.

Right now, Anne sprinted up Eleanor Trail, under the shade of massive & old red oak trees.
She thought about what Robert shared with her last night........it all seemed so surreal.
At every Bilateral base, women were respected and did every job a man could do.

........His stress all started months ago when an elder from the Rebel camp, where he lived with his mom & step dad, knocked on the front door, late at night.

His mother called out.......Robby,....
Jim Thompson is here to see you.

Jim Thompson was an elder, and brought great news for Robert......
