There was a lot more that you had to sacrifice for not only your survival but for your own happiness. You had to sacrifice your identity and your own family, you didn't even say goodbye. Your family was extremely poor, so poor that sometimes you went days without eating. Your parents and your sisters loved you very much, so much that your parents despised themselves for not being able to prove food to the table.

Although you kind of felt what awaited your sisters here, you this was the best you could do to help them. They were just three, and they needed all the nutrition they could get, and at least with you gone they'll get more.

Not only that, but by leaving and obtaining more of life you were hoping that you'll be able to someday send them money.

That's what your friends had forgotten, they were the only children that their parents had, they didn't have to worry about their siblings. They didn't understand that you couldn't stay, you had to leave.

With a last glance towards the houses of the village, you felt your heart being torn again. You were not sure if you would be able to see them again, and that made your pain intensify. Your eyes were already swollen but you couldn't stop the tears as you walked away from your past life. The moment you stepped away from the village, you were starting anew, not as [Name], but as [M/N]. A young thirteen years old boy who was orphaned and had only an uncle, aunt and two cousins.

It has been a couple of hours since Zack and that group left so the chances of you catching up to them was zero. You just hoped you didn't end up mugged and killed.

And so, you began your journey. You walked and walked, only stopping to drink water and eat something. The next village was hours away from here and that was only by horse or carriage.

Walking? You weren't sure, but you had to move on.

When night came around, you gathered some wood and lit a fire. During the night got quite cold so you wouldn't be able to survive without a fire. Besides, it would scare off any animals.

Your journey continued and it was until the end of the next day when you finally arrived to the village. Your feet hurt, were swollen and you were just exhausted and hungry.

But you didn't have any more food left, and of course no place to stay either. So, you did what you once told yourself you would never do; you begged for anyone that was still around for food.

It was humiliating, but there were some kind people around who did listen to your pleas and offered you some bread and water. It was enough to quench your hunger, once you were satisfied, you searched for a place to sleep.

You stayed in that village for a couple of days, doing some jobs here and there to afford for food so that you could go on. Though, as much as you wanted to afford a carriage you just couldn't, and you had to walk again. You were just happy that there was a road that you could follow, otherwise you would get lost.

This cycle continued for over a month, until you came to another village. This one was a lot bigger and better economically than those you passed.

When you arrived, you no longer felt exhausted as you did before since your body was not used to the physical hard work. Your body was not scrawny and delicate like it used to be. Now it was stronger with more muscle and of course, more strength. You did not look like a boy, but your appearance didn't scream girl anymore. At least, not that much.

And then, you moved on a couple of days later. Your next destination was the one you were expecting, this one was not just a village, no. It was Lucio, a kingdom with a lot to offer.

On your way here you heard some rumors about the recruitment of young boys. So, without wasting any time as soon as you arrived to searched for the military building when there was a line of kids there.

There were not that many, maybe around twenty to maybe thirty boys and most of them looked thin like they hadn't eaten in days. Even if they looked week, they were accepted without any questions, much to your surprise. When it came your turn, they only asked about your name and ordered you to join the group of scared boys.

Eventually, you were taken to the dormitories where all of you would be sleeping from now on. And then, they continued to give you a guide of the place, the locations of the cafeteria, training grounds, and bathrooms.

It...It was frightening to think that you would have to live here until you were officially real soldiers. It wasn't what you had in mind, but for the moment it was your best option. Perhaps you'll face a lot of challenges, but if it meant you'll accomplish your dreams, you were so ready for anything.
